Fist time poster, long-time Dish subscriber, so apologies for posting a topic that no doubt has been discussed to death here already.

I did try Search but no joy.

I have a 2-channel dish with separate coax runs to Room 1 and Room 2. Room 1 has a DUO DVR VIP722 hooked up to my HDTV. Room 2 has a SDTV that shares the DUO receiver wirelessly. The satellite signal is displayed in SD on that channel only, but I can view and record all programs on both TVs i.e. if I set up a recording at TV 1 I can view it at TV 2, and vice versa.

I am installing a new HDTV in Room 2 so now need an HD DVR for it. I ordered the solo DVR VIP612.

Is there any way that I can view recordings on both TVs now? Either by some sort of add-on or directly linking the DVRs by a cable?

Feel free to point me to a previous thread.

Thanks for your help.

The easiest way would be to pay the $40 External Hard Drive option for both of them and swap the drives as desired.

As far was watching directly from the DVRs on the other HDTV -
In SD is not hard.

HD - you will need to run 2 sets of component+audio (one from each DVR) to the other HDTV. You would also need appropriate RF remotes.

What you really would like would be to be able to view said shows as an ethernet transfer - and Dish is not doing this at this time.

You could also look into Sling.

Just diplex the TV2 signal into the feed for the second room. It's what I'm doing so I have my 211k plus the TV2 from the 722 in the basement.

I agree with Scooper in paying $40 to activate EHD(Exteranl Hard Disk) and purchase 1 or 2 EHD's to move between the 722 and 612.

Sling devices are great, looking into that myself, but waiting on a real HD reciever portion, which will probably comeout about the same time, Dish and Sling release the Sling Extender.

Thanks, guys - appreciate the responses.

It seems to be as I suspected - no elegant way to do that.

Either couple the DVRs through extremely long A/V cables, use Sling but then have to mate my computer to the HDTV or manually swap external HDs between DVRs.

I guess I was hoping for a U-verse like solution.

Ideally, the DUO DVRs will eventually be able to share HD signals with TV 2.

Thanks, again.

With Sling you don't have to mate your computer to your TV.

How does it work?

Does it deliver 1080 HD resolution?

Can you do this with a 722 and a 211? I have an ext HD on my 211 and 722; can I swap these without a reformat?

I wish you could move a EHD from a 722, to a 211, but you can't.
You can move the 722 to any 722,622,612,(and the 922 I belive now)on your account.
The 211 is not a DVR but turned into one, so that EHD can't be moved, to a ViP series DVR. But you can move a 211 EHD to another 211 on the account.

Not sure if Sling has a HD solo, but have had the SD Solo for years, for TV's or not. They do have and have had the Slingbox HD PRO for some sometime.

I don't think this will happen because of dumb DRM laws that prevent honest people from using their equipment in a way that works for them. The 922 is as close as you will get to that.

I don't get it? You mean there's a law that says you CAN'T send an HD signal out on TV2, BUT you can send SD?
Elaborate please. I always wondered why Dish didn't have dual HD receivers and I thought it was a matter of cost or technology, not some stupid law.

I don't think that's true. DirecTv has whole home DVR service that allows sharing of HD recordings from any HD DVR to any other HD DVR/Receiver in the house.

If both rooms are not on at the same time, say like TV1 is the living room and TV2 is the bedroom and you quit watching TV1 in the living room and want to watch a HD picture in the bedroom. You can hookup TV1 with the Component hookups with audio cables and TV2 with a long HDMI cable because all the outputs on the 722 are active. You can control the 722 with the TV2 RF remote control in the bedroom.

Don't know if this is what you want to do,but this is how alot of 722 users have it setup to get an HD signal to TV2(bedroom) and it's cheaper because you don't need another receiver(DVR) so no additional receiver fee.Good Luck!:)

I don't think its accurate either. DRM doesn't care about HD vs SD content.
When the 622 and 722 came out, Broadcomm hadn't released a chipset that could drive seperate HD outputs. Broadcomm 2yrs ago, released a chipset that could do just that. It would have to be the 922 moving forward that would use it and put it to use.

As I don't know the price difference between the 2 chipsets from Broadcomm, I have no idea, how much more expensive it would make the 922, if it would make it cost prohibative or not. Personally I think EchoStar/Dish in this case would rather make money off of selling a few more hardware pieces like the Sling Adapter, and the Sling extender, vs absorbing the cost of the new chipset, and only selling only 1 DVR, vs 1 DVR and multiple Extenders.

Thanks, but not gonna do that. Want much more simplicity and flexibility - i.e. no constraint over what TV is on or off, no long cable runs, etc.

Far too cumbersome for what should be an easy solution.
