I have a brand new 508. This is actually my second new one. The first one had the same problem. I returned it only to find the second one does the same thing. Every few seconds the hard drive clicks. It sound like a normal drive noise. However, when it clicks, my picture flickers. The 508 is conected via cable wire to a fairly old TV. I am on 1.98 software.

Any thoughts?

Where did you get your 508's ?? Local dealer or through Dish directly? I would say you were just unlucky and got a bad batch of harddrives in both units. I am sure your getting frustrated with this problem, but take it back where you got it and try one more. If the 3rd does the same thing, I would check all connections on your current setup. I have ordered several hard drives lately for my personal computer and I found I had the same problem; "clicking noises" It could be a mass wide failure of hard drives. Just a thought.

I got the first one directly from DISH. I called them to exchange it less then 24 hours after I activated it, and they wanted to send a refurb. I refused, and returned the unit (I also got them to send a return label, they wanted me to pay for return shipping). I hung up the phone, called back, and asked for the $149 508 special. No problem getting it. This time I got it from a local installer. I used them for my 721, and I am sure they will replace it. Hopefully the 3rd one won't have this problem!
