View Full Version : Wrong content on channels from 119-110 (was Major hacker attack?)

At 6:30 this morning my 322 receiver with the 250 channel service is being hacked. Half the channels including TMC, Fox movies, Fox news, CNN news and many others are broadcasting Muslim programming in their language. This looks like it may be a major hacker attack. Or is just my receiver

Western arc MPEG2 channels ... The EA HD seems to be OK.

CNN just came back on WA.

I'd guess that there is some switching problem at DISH ... the "CNN Enhanced" banner appeared over the foreign programming when I tuned over.

Western arc MPEG2 channels ... The EA HD seems to be OK.Clarification ... I meant to say EA SD was fine.

There are a lot of channels out of place. Some black, some showing the DISH logo. Speed is showing a slate confirming PPV Sporting event purchases. No "porn on the kiddy channels" so I suspect that when DISH sorts this out it will be a simple oops.

I'm seeing some of the channels come back as I'm flipping through to see the errors.

How did this all end up and any word from Dish Network?

My friend called me just now and was asking me what was going on.
She reported this same problem to me.
She is on hold on the phone with Dish to find out what is happening.

I just checked my SD and HD channels of the same titles, etc. on DirecTV and those channels are what they are supposed to be.

HBOCY seems to be showing Pakistani TV and it's not funny. :)

DISH could use a "What the heck is going on" channel.

Half and half. I'm sure the non-English part is hilarious as that's when they are laughing. :)

Either that, or it's the Pakistani version of the movie "The Apartment". Although, that's not Jack Lemmon and Shirley MacLaine.

BTW, the new subject for this thread of "Wrong content on channels from 119" is not totally accurate. HBOCY is on 110° and it's still showing PTV which is on 118°.

DirecTV has had their "quirks" but I'll take a forced reboot any day of the week over what happened with DISH this morning. So you have no reference for it ever happening before?

With the forced reboots people lost timers and content on all channels, HD and SD. Including people who had done the repair themselves and were forced through another reboot regardless of the fact their receiver was working. This morning's event was wrong content on SD channels on Western Arc. This did not affect HD channels or Eastern Arc customers and DISH was able to restore channels quickly without shutting down people's receivers completely.

It has happened once before, but I can't remember exactly when. 2005 or 2006; an errant encoder swapped Fox News with Al Jazeera for about 45 seconds.

And just like now, everyone automatically assumed terrorist attack.

Given the fact that we are at war with muslim fanatics, American soldiers being wounded and killed as well as innocent American civilans and other nationals this morning's "incident" with DISH does not make good PR no matter how brief the error. The psycholgical impact outways any technical content error.

James: I am the one who started the thread at 6:30 this morning. Many many channels were incorrect. I'm located in Akron, Ohio, isn't that eastern arc SD channels? I receive all my channels on 61.5, 110 and 119. I always thought I was in the east. We are on Eastern Time.

You get your SD channels from the Western Arc (119-110-129 if a complete arc).

For locals your SD channels are on 110 with HD on 129. Your market also has HD and SD locals on 61.5.

After the ton of commericals, the story had to do with the many thousands of Direct TV subscribers that are reciving bills twice as high as expected with extra charges, etc. I quess several states are looking into it. Reminds me of the time I turned it to Nicktoons channel surfing and there was an NHL hockey game on around 8 in the morning (which was weird b/c they don't even show replays then) The strange thing about this was the Nicktoons logo was still on the corner of the screen and I broke out in laughter when they started airing a commercial for beer with the Nicktoons logo still in place. Great stuff.
