Here is the setup I'd like to have.
The PVR 721 lives in the family room along with one TV.
A second TV lives upstairs in my daughter's room.
I watch TechTV in the living room while my daughter watches MTV upstairs. My thought is the second tuner sends the signal out as channel 3 or 4 though a coaxial cable that goes from the PVR 721 to the TV upstairs. She uses the UHF functionality of the remote to control the 721? This saves me from having a seperate receiver on her TV.

Could she also watch a recorded show upstairs?

You will need 2 receivers the 721 cant do that. The lanned 522 can but we have NO idea when it will be released.

for what they charged and all the stuff they did build into the 721 - you'd think they'd have put a "vcr out" port so that you could independently tap the video signals from both tuners. But Bob is right, the 721 only outputs one signal. You can pvr MTV on one tuner and watch TechTV (or vise versa), you can even watch both at the same time (sortof) via the picture-in-picture function. But only one rf signal gets sent to the "tv" even though you get your choice of s-video or standard coax to connect - same signal goes to both.

I'd recommend shopping around E-bay, ... for a 301 - they should be available fairly inexpensively.

run2w8s I would suggest you do a Digital Home Plan 2 receiver system. You sound like a new customer so you would qualify. DHP is $49.99 activation fee credited back on your first programming bill, free installation of leased equipment. The PVR 508 is a $50 upgrade fee but has no monthly DVOD fees a second receiver would be a PRO=301 which will have a $5.00/mo fee to duplicate programming, which is there wether you lease or own. The DHP has a service contract which will take care of problems with the DVR508 rather than buying a separate extended warranty.

Your best bet is to get the Free DVR promo from E*, you will pay $49 at time of purchase and then get a $49 credit on your first bill, with this deal you will get a DVR510 single tuner dvr/satellite receiver for the main room and a 2nd model 301 standard satellite receiver for the bedroom, you will however pay an extra $4.99 per month on the 2nd receiver plus a monthly dvr fee of $9.99 per month for AT50 or $4.98 for AT100 or AT150 or no fee with the America's Everything package.
or
You can go to Sears and get the Free for ALL Deal and pay $399 and get the DVR508 instead of the DVR510, (their are no monthly dvr fees on the 508, however this unit has 60hr recording vs 100 for the 510) and you still get a 301 receiver for the bedroom, and get a $10 credit towards your bill for 20 months. You will need to hurry to get a 508, since it is out of production, so I am sure this deal at Sears is while supplies last. I do not know if RS or independent satellite dealers can offer the 508 in their Free For All deal or not?
