Greetings . . .

I've been a DHP subscriber w/ 2 receviers for almost 3 years. I'm interested in upgrading to a dual-tuner PVR. (My current receivers are the 3700 and 4700 models, I think -- no bells and whistles). I know I can upgrade to a 508 model under the DHP, but I really want dual-tuner capabilities (i.e.: the 721). After talking with Dish, it doesn't seem like a possibility, but the CSR seemed a little unsure.

Am I better off switching to DTV? Do they have an PVR offering similar to the DHP?

Any advice would be appreciated.

I too am a DHP sub. After my year was up, I purchased a used 508 and sent Dish back one of the 301s they "leased" me. It was all very easy. The day I activated my 508 the CSR deactivated my 301. In your case, it sounds as if you want to add a 3rd rcvr to your account. I can't imagine E* turning down an additional 4.99 / month.

Try calling again ... The CSR you spoke to must have been confused.

The price of the 721 is out of most people's (including mine) league. You'll spend over $500.00 to do the deal. Also, if you want to drop the DHP plan and start up with your own equipment, you will not get any deals. I tried that a couple of years ago with no luck. I got a couple of 1000's from my brother (who switched to cable), then purchased a couple of 508's later on. You'll save alot of money going to DirecTV. Unless E* has programming you can't live without (superstations) a jump to D* is in order for you.

Actually, I still want 2 receivers -- I just want one of them to have PVR capabilities with dual tuners. The 508 has just one tuner, and I'd rather not have two 508 sitting on top of one TV.

From what I'm hearing/finding, it doesn't look like Dish is offering any kind of two-tuner upgrade under the DHP . . . and I can't justify the retail cost of a 721. Even considering the DirecTivo's fee, it would take years to justify the premium for 721.

You can wait till the Nov./Dec. time frame DISH hopefully will offer the 522. Or if you are like me give up on DISH and switch to Directv. If you are a new Directv subscriber you should get a great deal on 2 receivers with one being a TIVO and $5/mo for TIVO service isn't to hard to take compared to DISH'S DVOD fees.
