I ran into a Big Brother guide problem on the west coast that cost me to miss the show. Did anyone else run into it. CBS moved Big Brother to 8pm. It showed on the guide as 8pm on channel 2 (CBS). We set it up yesterday morning for that timeslot. Turns out the show was on channel 9 (KTLA) at 8pm so we missed it. Did anyone else see this?

Sounds like a local issue, not something the guide can usually take into account. I wonder if you would have looked at Zaptoit.com or tvguide.com if they would have also had the error.

What probably happened is that there was a crawl on the CBS station that said we're moving the show over to our Sister station.

Did that station then bump up the lantin grammies an hour? What did they have in the place of BB?

This is exactly what happened. I don't know about the crawl, but I remember seeing something about this in the paper.

The Latin Grammy pre-show was on. I got to see an hour of interviews instead of what I intended to see. Wonder if Tivo People got the proper show recordered. ;)

Well if they didn't, so much for name based recording!

Name-based recording only works if the the guide is updated. If they do a late switch like this and the guide isn't updated, name-based recording won't catch it either.

It's worked perfectly for me for the two years I've had Ultimate TV on D*.

You've recorded the right show even with the UTV guide said it was a different show? I find that hard to believe.

I have UTV as well, and it never misses recordings. That being said, if the station doesn't update the guide, it won't catch it. I think I have only run into that problem once in a little over two years.

That's my point - name-based recording is only as good as the guide info.

I've never had a guide discrepancy on any shows I wanted to record, except for occasionally on Sunday nights when a football game runs over. Of course the guide can't get changed for that with such short notice. But then, "time based" wouldn't either.
I have seen short notice changes, like a one time thing moving "Survivor" from Thursday to Wednesday. Without my having to do anything, UTV never missed a beat in recording it a day early. Try THAT with a Dish recorder!

Glad to see the Name based folks see this as a thread to trumpet the benefits of named based recording. ;) I think the point was made on the benefit of Name based recordering over time based a few posts ago. ;) However, since the guide showed the program as playing at 8pm on channel 2 when in reality it was 8pm on channel 9 name based recording would have failed also.

On that note:
Not sure why Dish could not add the ability to autocorrect the times if the guide changes. This would not be named based recording by adding the ability to move time based recording based on guide changes using name as a key would not be the same I would think. They could do a lot of that kind of stuff to make the box smarter. I think Named based recording is cool and see it place, but Dish for sure could make there boxes smarter for sure. Maybe the platform they are developoing on makes things like this hard to implement. Is the 921 Linux based?
