View Full Version : Best way to set up football recordings?

Is there a somewhat foolproof method to set up automatic recordings for my favorite NFL football team to catch the games only?
Being a Packer fan, there are many shows besides the game that contain "Green Bay" or "Packers" that I'll end up with too many recorded events. I'm new to Dish and was previously with DTV. I never had a good way with DTV either so just looked ahead at guide for Sunday and scheduled my recordings. I always managed to forget from time to time though. I'm hoping Dish has a better way.
Thanks. FYI, I did a search but didn't come up with much...

I recommend doing a "Green Bay Packers at" and a "at Green Bay Packers"

Thanks so much GrumpyBear!
I entered both of these as Dish passes yesterday, I had to shorten to "Green Bay at" and "at Green Bay" because there was too much text otherwise. I will need to tweak my other settings because when I returned late at night, the DVR recorded multiple channels of the game and then was set to record the same event later. I did not specify a channel because I felt (wrongly perhaps) that if the game is on a different channel next time, it wouldn't record. I also have it set to record new only thinking that would keep it from recording multiples but that didn't work as expected.
Any ideas for tweaking my settings?

Dish Pass records on all channels, so you don't set one. "record new" will record multiples as long as the Info has it tagged as New.

RasputinAXP,
You obviously didn't get the memo. It's been probably years that limitation was removed. :)

One can also set resolution to prefer HD or record HD or SD only.

I would do what James recommends, and create a Dish Pass that is just for one channel, in the options section.
Create 3 Dish Passes.
1. at Green Bay(set this one to your Fox station) All home games
2. Green Bay at(Set this one to your Fox Station) All NFC away games
3. Green Bay at(Set for your CBS Station for the AFC away games)
Now for NBC Sunday night and ESPN MNF, if you think you are going to miss those or forget to set them, then and a Green Bay at, and at Green Bay for your NBC station and for ESPN 140.

LOL! It's been years that I've even used Dish Pass, mostly because I got frustrated with how often it would record from channels I didn't want...SO NO I DIDN'T GET THE MEMO!! :P

Thanks again guys!
GrumpyBear, it appears you have been there, done that a few times already. You even did my homework for my in identifying the various stations the games will be on. I can DO this!

Actually I have only used Dish pass once. Football is pretty easy though. NFC = Fox,
AFC = CBS,
and Sunday is NBC, and Monday is ESPN.
Home team dictates broadcasting network so for the Packers, all AFC games will be at on CBS.

Don't forget to add the NFL Network for some Thursdays and Saturdays (usually later in the season).

NFL Network could be a factor for some. Not Greenbay this year though:
2010 season, by football week.
10 Thursday November 11 Baltimore Ravens at Atlanta Falcons
11 Thursday November 18 Chicago Bears at Miami Dolphins
12 Thursday November 25 Cincinnati Bengals at New York Jets
13 Thursday December 2 Houston Texans at Philadelphia Eagles
14 Thursday December 9 Indianapolis Colts at Tennessee Titans
15 Thursday December 16 San Francisco 49ers at San Diego Chargers
15 Thursday December 23 Carolina Panthers at Pittsburgh Steelers
16 Saturday December 25 Dallas Cowboys at Arizona Cardinals
NBC Sunday Night season can screw things up, as later in the season, they can change the Sunday night game, but that effects fans, and could cause some timer conflicts in Sunday primetime.

I am new to DISH as of yesterday. How would I go about setting up to watch all Colts games. When I do the DISHpass, do I do title searches, info searches or what?
