Just to let everyone know... there is an oddly-scheduled Charlie Chat tonight at 9pm, channel 101.
Odd because usually these are at the first of a month, and not near the end... so not sure what is up for discussion, but maybe something interesting.

Probably the agreement to add AMC HD, which people have been screaming for for all seasons of Mad Men.
Note DISH is first with this; DirecTV does not offer AMC HD.

Looks like Dish will be offering online benefits to subscribers. Go to the article for details but it looks good.
Hopefully, in addition to above, information about the Disney, PBS and Fuse disputes.

Most of the show was about NFL and college football. AMC was highlighted. And there was a cool preview of the DISHOnline.com upgrade launching tomorrow. Then lame answers to questions began and time elapsed. Perhaps on a replay they'll get the ending in. :)

That's one-third of an hour. That isn't even remotely funny in this economy.
Let's assume for a moment that somehow you're getting Dish - package, receiver, etc. - for $40 a month. That's $120 an hour. Or $20,800 a month. Or $249,600 a year.
Hey, but maybe he can get it for half, $20 a month. (Yeah, sure!) Well, we all know they pay their CSR's and service techs $124,800 a year, right?
So I set a timer to record the replay. I have to see this one!:rolleyes:

The replay runs longer that the original ... no 2008 VH1 special to cut it off. :)

A Once timer works... :)
Also a recurring timer for the repeat - New - gets the first repeat on a recurring basis. I caught the midnight or 1 AM first repeat with that timer.

Yeah, I know... and I even posted the reminder on the forum yesterday before going out!
But... on my main TV I had my DVR "booked" with other channel recordings... and it slipped my mind to set a timer on one of my other receivers.

I had the same problem. I found a re-broadcast at midnight or 1:00AM and created a Timer for that all "New" episodes of the re-broadcast. It worked, and I assume it will work for the first re-broadcast of future Charlie Chats.

This is the fist time I've watched a full episode of the charlie chat, and I can now say without question, these guys have no concept of reality when it comes to the value of money.
Also Jim's says to get a 922, they'll charge a small fee. Well, I'm not exactly Poor. I make pretty good money, but I sure don't see $200 as a small fee.
Perhaps Charlie and Jim make more money than they can ever spend, and think most of their customers are in the same boat.
Also I liked the last question. Too bad I never heard the answer. Great timing guys.

I recorded the "Chat" rerun, and it was cut off at the same spot as the live feed was...not only no mention of the Sling equipment, but the answer about what plans Dish has for 3D channels was cut off before the full answer..
Maybe someone pulled the plug on purpose before Charlie or Jim gave away their game plan...which is probably somewhere in the negotiations loop.

Even on a teleprompter it is an easy mistake ... Charlie intended to say "send us your payment" and "paycheck" slipped out. It was Jim's handling of the slip that turned the moment into a major fail.
I do like the question on the show "where's Ira"? Jim forgot the last show and Ira filled in. It might work out better if this became the Charlie Chat and not the Charlie and Jim show. Charlie needs someone to riff with but it might work better to have people other than Jim. Perhaps a person responsible for the subject being discussed?

I still am waiting for them to buy the rights to use the theme from Scott Baio's "Charles in Charge" for the Chats :)
Charlie Chats were a great idea when Dish was a small company. I have not seen one since 2004 but felt embarrassed for how they struggled with them then. Spend a little of your money to hire a professional to produce these for you or drop them all together. The DBSTalk videos are a lot higher quality. Maybe you should hire them!

If most of the show was about football, and there is no addition of ESPNUHD, then the whole show should be considered an epic fail.

Answer - Charlie: Yes. Just by an extra dish from one of our retailers or call us, take a receiver from your house or get an extra receiver to do it. For a lot of customers who have an RV they may want a more sophisticated system, those sophisticated systems can be anywhere from a dish that automatically tracks the satellites that goes on top of the RV or one that you can put on the ground and it automatically tracks. There is a company called King Controls and Winegard. Both of these have sophisticated systems for RVs or you can get a simple dish if you know how to sight the system. Whatever fits your needs.
Email (Wes from TX): "Why is the BIG 10 Network restricted to the one geographic area? I live in Texas and want to subscribe to the BIG 10 Network next year when my Huskers join the conference."
Answer - Charlie: In AT200 it is restricted to the Big 10 states ... but there is a way to watch all the Big 10 games - even if you live in Texas - that would be the Multi-Sport package ... $7.00 per month.

Caller (Sheila from MT): Charlie, you've been in the new DISH commercials and I'm wondering why you decided to do that.
Answer - Charlie: It was pretty easy, they went out and got some big stars to be in the commercials and when I saw how much we would have to pay them I realized that we would be raising your bill if we did that. I'm not in an actor's union, I'm obviously not an actor. Jim: I will say that your ego has gotten a little bigger since you started doing the commercials. Charlie: I'm humbled by the process. They had me shooting commercials for eight hours for two minutes of commercials. The cost of doing that for someone who was just paid to do it as opposed to perhaps Jim and I who helped start this company - we really care about it without getting paid. That's why I ended up doing that.
Caller: I love the commercials, I think they are great.
Jim: Thanks.

In might be an hour, it might be two hours but a whole month for the whole family. You can't go out and go to a movie for what it would cost for two or three months of DISH Network."

Charlie: Google TV will be a separate box ... bringing the Internet to your television. We'll need a better processor to put Google TV on the 922 (maybe the 923 - wink wink). But the 922 will be able to get movies and TV shows (not the entire Internet).

Phone Call (Troy from San Fransisco): When are we going to have 3D programming? - and I hope that we don't have to pay extra for it.
Charlie: You don't pay for HD so you've got to be happy about that. 3D programming we're playing around with a lot, it will probably be - its going to be in the 4th quarter. We'll start with some dedicated channels of 3D. Additionally there is quite a bit of new technology coming out in 3D, new chipsets and new generations of 3D beyond where it is today. We'll get a little more excited about 3D when we can integrate the next generation of technology. Probably this time next year will be my guess. The next generation of technology in set top boxes and TV sets so that it is a better experience than it is today. You'll still may need glasses but it will be a better experience than it is today and it will be more clarity. The way the technology works today is that you only use every other frame so you lose a little bit in doing that and we can really improve that with the new chipsets next year. To make a long story short: It will be out in the 4th quarter for you, we'll have dedicated channels and I don't know whether we are going to charge more for that or not. I don't think that our competitors --
Jim: Don't know ... Don't know ...
Charlie: We'll be, we'll be ...
Jim: Part of it depends on the programmers too.
Charlie: We'll be competitive ... if other people aren't charging we won't charge or there will probably be some basic stuff that will be free and then some premium stuff that there will be a charge for. But I really don't know the answer for that.
