I'm sad to see it. I'm not a fan of the Rangers, but I've always enjoyed his play during the Olympics and Worlds. It seems many of our favorite players are leaving sports because of concussions. What can be done about this?

I'll miss Richter and it's devistating to see his career end this way. His great preformances throughout the years will always be remembered by me. His outstanding preformance at Salt Lake in 2002 made me gain a lot more respect and admiration for him, as he showed he still had some spectacular goaltending left in him. If only the Rangers had good defense infront of him during his last few years, who knows what he would've done for them.

Jason Allison will be returning to the LA Kings with a newly revised helmet with far better padding this season, but the players continue to get bigger, stronger, and faster every year. Its going to take better equipment and a healthier respect league wide for an opponents health and career outside of hockey when it comes time for the NHL to find ways to reduce concussions. Used to be players would suffer concussions and routinely continue to play chalking it up to getting the ol' bell rung, but now more then ever GM's, coaches, and team doctors are far more protective of their multi-million dollar assets when it comes to head injuries of this nature. Scott Gomez had what appeared to be a concussion in the NJ Devils vs. Boston Bruins round 1 playoff series after he collided with fellow teammate Grant Marshall. He had problems getting off the ice and actually fell into the players bench trying to get back to the players dressing room. Scary stuff when you see it happen live.
