View Full Version : 508 Sound
Hopefully there is a simple fix for this. Turned on the 508 and don't have any sound. Not on live sat or on recorded programs. This happened once before and it seemed to fix itself.
Any thoughts??

Try rebooting, mine do that now and then:(
Are you using the Dolby Digital output or RCA jacks. There is an option for the optical output for Dolby only or PCM/Dolby. If set to Dolby only, then you won't get any output unless it is true Dolby Digital (should be set to PCM & Dolby Digital). Also possible that the connection got loose.
The reboot worked fine. Thanks!!! For future reference, to reboot, I need to unplug the unit for a minute then plug it back in - Right??? I know with the 301's that I have all I need to do is to hold in the power switch until it cuts off, wait a moment or two then power it back on. However, I don't recall seeing a power button on the 508.
BTW, this is the first problem after 2 months of trouble free service, and I don't actually think it was a major problem as it was easily resolved!!
Luckily I acted quick on getting my 508. I got it off of ebay within a couple of days of the announcemenet on the new fees on the 510. Fortunately I got mine for $224 including shipping. I thought about getting a second one, however, this item one ebay has gone up on average about $100 since I bought mine.

You don't need to unplug your 508 to do a reboot. Just press and hold the power button on the front of the box down for about 5 seconds or so. That'll force the box to reboot.

The order that you should try is as follows:
1. Press and hold the power button until both the "Power" and "Recording" lights up. Then release. This will reboot the receiver.
2. Pull the smart card. You will get a message to insert the smart card. Wait. After about 30-60 seconds, the system information screen comes up. Reinsert the card. This is as close as pulling the plug as possible.
3. Unplug the receiver and wait one minute. Last resort.
I would also recommend that once you do these reset procedures, go to Menu-6-1-1 and run a check switch.

I avoid the smartcard pull. My old 4000 needed frequent reboots and the most convenient way was pull card, till the card or readed wore and receiver needed replaced. New boxes are cardless and I think if the power button resetr doesnt do it the pull plug is the best solution.
