Few Details from Sept 4th Retailer Chat:

WAAY (NBC) - Huntsville - available now..

Alaska - available now... Alaska's NBC is coming from Seattle for now to some qualifying people (Alaska is a large area).. People who qualify for Seattles NBC - 5.99 per/m, People who do not - 4.99 per month

Fantasy Sports at Dish Interactive TV - Check it out :) - prices, etc...

Sept 16th - 9.99 per month / 109.88 anually - new HD Pack available to Subscribers - ESPN HD, HDNet Movies, HDNet, Disc HD Theater - 8psk - Lowest price in America - for now available with Dish 500
8psks modules will be available for 99 Installed.. for those who need them..
61.5's and 148's HDs will eventually come over to Superdish, then customer can have All in 1 Dish :)

811s, 921s - Nov 1/2003
SuperDish - Mid October 2003

New customers to 811 and 921 - would have SuperDish ("wanna have them up Right the first time, cuz from 30 to 50 HD channels might become available next Few Years") - 105 location (i guess)

Customers who currently pay 7.99 for HD pack - can get upgraded to 9.99 per/month to this new pack...(phone call away on Sept 16)
Great deal for them.. (better pack)

Dish will be simulcasting HD channels at 105 and wings (61.5 and 148) for a few months... So not too worry :)

Will be some sort of Upgrade program to SuperDish for the existing customers...
But New Customers will get Superdish - (for example those who buy 811 or 921 receivers)

When SuperDish becomes available - around that time, bunch of New local markets will be launched - Oct 15/16
those locals Additions will be - Most on SuperDish, some on the Wings, etc..

Anticipated Locals Launch on Oct 15/16:
Albany, NY
Baltimore, MD
Boise, ID
Columbus, OH
Columbia, SC
Greensboro, NC
Memphis, TN
Wichita, KS
Richmond, VA
-------------------- 6 Weeks away on those, might test some before hand (as we know was done with Wichita, Richmond, etc - just recently)

Potential SuperDish local Markets for 2003:
Charleston, WV (or so i think, partually covered by "Recorded 9/4 2003" logo)
Champaign, IL
Chattanooga, TN
Columbia-Jefferson City, MO
Dayton, OH
Duluth, MN
Evansville, IN
Ft, Smith, AR
Flint, MI
Green Bay, WI
Johnstown - Altoona, PA
Lansing, MI
Madison, WI
Mobile, AL
Milwaukee, WI
Missoula, MT
Savannah, GA
South Bend, IN
Springfield, MO
Traverse City, MI
Wilkes - Barre, PA

If one of those drops out, Dish will add some other city in it's place (they got many "willing") :)

Potential Dish 500 Local Markets - 2003 (No agreement finalized with those yet or they could have been "UP" right away)
Again, those only would require Dish 500, (No SuperDish would be needed for those) :

Bakersfield, CA
Eugene, OR
Hartford, CT ( Hey, Scott, You do not need SuperDISH :D )
Santa Barbara, CA
Sherman, TX - Ada, OK
Yakima, WA

# of local markets that are very close (Potential ones at SuperDish or at Dish 500) - but if they can't go UP, some other city "surely" will in their place...

At Baltimore Conference - will be more Information on HD, SuperDish, etc..

Sept 8 - Consumer Chat - Will be talking about New HD programming, 9.99 package, etc.
But at October's Chat - they will talk more about everything... they will also talk about or even introduce 811 and 921 IRDs, features, etc..and more... (Promissing to be interesting chat, i guess)

Retailers, etc - might start getting 811s and 921s - Late October
Retailers, etc - might start getting SuperDishes - Late September

One of many Phone-in questions/answers: - SuperDish will require new pipe (aka New Base)

Next Retailer Chat - Oct 1, 12:00 noon, Eastern time
Next Charlie Chat - Sept 8, 9:00 pm, Eastern time..

Darn, still no promise that all those locals will go up. I figure they would be more certain on the majority of the cities they have been announced by now, but maybe they do not want to give a promise they cannot keep in case something happens. I am sure Dish would not want to drop a city from the list in which DirecTv is going to add or they will lose the majority of the market in that new subscribers would subscribe to DirecTv instead plus lose current Dish subscribers in the process, unless Dish would add a market that DirecTv was not planning to launch to make up for it if they decided to drop a city.

There are a lot of people here that will not get satellite because the locals are not even offered but would take it in a hearbeat if they were available. There are a lot of reception problems due to hills, mountains and trees in this state (WV).

I'm that way. When it comes time to decide whether to stick with dish, go to directv or go back to digital cable one of the major things will be local channels (so far only cable has them here), channel selection (cable has hdtv, locals, and video on demand coming), and price. Whichever one has two of the 3 gets the nominee. Right now I think cable will win especially since at the end of 2005 season cable can pick up nfl sunday ticket and dish won't see it's chance til 2007.

So the SuperDish will require a new "arm"? Would this just replace the current arm, or be in addition to?

Wright now because of my employment problems I am temporally ota only, dish and receivers still hooked up, once I am working steady again I will likely go back to E* mainly because E* will likely have Chattanooga locals, D* will not and Chattanooga does not have a full time UPN station,I can still get Supers from E*, if it were not for locals and Supers I would take a good hard look at D*.

For those on a limited budget, the locals give an extra option for them on Dish Network on top of the small ala carte channels/packages you can get now, because you can purchase the locals without having to purchase a basic package but will be charged a $5 fee for not taking the basic package for a total cost of $10.99 per month.

I am just wodering about this new arm for the superdish. Will the existing dishpro quad I have now be able to be used with the new lnb for the 105 sat? In the pictures it looks like they are using a dishpro twin, so I just wondered if it was feasable to use the existing quads out there and the new lnb attached. I hope so I just installed a terk antenna onto my dish so I could get ota locals.

I would think that it would probably be pretty tough or not possible at all to get a terk antenna on a SuperDish or ParaTodos dish.

Does E* ever do a 'free preview' of the locals... to get people's attention that they now exist?

Darkman

I believe they have something nowadays - like a "free preview" of New Local Markets - when those are launched... (not sure if that apply to all the new markets or some only... and not sure if that is still on or over now)

I think if Dish would have some free channels (at least a free preview for a while)at 105 and 121 that would get some subscribers to purchase the dishes to receive them and encourage them to do the upgrade even more.

A retailer told me today that Champaign is scheduled for December 9, 2003 - anyone else hearing anything like this?

I heard the same date. They are waiting on a rebroadcast contract from one of the networks.

The Charleston/Huntington, WV DMA should be going up probably in November or December because the guy that puts up towers said he was getting them ready for being available on Dish Network.

Thanks for your reply

knowing that it will still be on 110 is a great relief since I like the Dish500 as is and its only 2 local channels ( NBC and CBS) going up. I still havent heard IF they are going to add some channels from Dallas yet which is 60 miles away and already have all their stations on 110. so not sure what kind of 'local' package they have in mind. BTW. im not afraid to admit I dont know what you mean by fiber back-haul.
