I have your basic 2 room system that started developing picture freezing/breakup in the upstairs room. At first it was just an occasional annoyance but it got to the point of the signal disappearing for a few minutes. During this period of time I would get the usual "Searching for signal..." message. The outages have gotten to the point that the upstairs unit is pretty unwatchable.
Now the downstairs unit is starting to develop the early symptoms mentioned above.
The dish outside hasn't budged from it's original install and there is nothing within 40 yards of it that could compromise the line of sight to the South.
I have gone into the system setup and watching the signal strength meter will show (For the most part) the strength maintaining mid 80's strength with little to no variation. What is interesting is the fact that while watching this display I can see the signal strength fall to zero at random intervals. And when I say fall I mean instantly, like turning off a switch. It doesn't last long, maybe a 1/2 second or so and then it instantly returns right back to its mid 80's position.
The nice people at DTV can't determine what the problem is over the phone and can only suggest a $70 service call. While the equipment is mine (So to speak) I am a little put off that I have to pay them so I can continue to pay them without interruption.
Unless someone here has developed the same problem that can assist me in fixing this thing myself.
