The good news about getting a replacement 721- fan quieter?

After struggling with pixilation for a month and finally getting a replacement it fixed the pixilation but also runs quieter. I wonder if they finally put a good fan in it. Also, wonder if a lot of their problems stem from the lousy ventilation they have in that box. :lol:

I have noticed that everytime Dish released a PVR the fan was quieter (501 quieter than the 7100, 721 quieter than the 501). I wonder if the 510 is even more quieter than both.

The 7100s never had a fan. The noise (and it was bad on the early models) was from the hard drive.

I noticed the 721 temperature was higher with tuner failure. Dont know if higher temperatures is a cause or effect of tuner failure, or just random chance..

The hard drive was the only thing really generating heat. It's not like this is an Athlon generating 40watts of heat or something.

My old 721's temperature held steady at 105 degrees most days. My new one bounces around between 107 and 114.

Don't know if this is significant or not yet. Everything seems to be working OK so far with the replacement.

I know that mine was running about 118° before it gave up its ghost. I will have to check the temperature on the new one. My understanding is that they're going to drop the temperature reading from the new updated system.

Mine was about 118 when its tuner craped out. Which came first overheating or the bad tuner. I suspect they are somehow related.
