Just curious, as I already have 2 6000's but if you were going to buy an HD receiver would you wait for the new 811 or grab the firesale price of $199 on the old model 6000 while it last?

I was going to wait for the 811 and Superdish but after seeing Charlie Chat I have decided to go ahead and get the 6000.

I feel it is a good price and it gives me HD a couple of months before the 811 and Superdish are ready.

A major plus is that I will be able to get the Superdish upgrade for free.

I have had a 6000 since they first came out. It replaced my 5000 and HDTV modulator which was connected to my Mitsubishi HD-1080. I have been getting DISH HDTV since December 1999 when HBO HD was offered.

I will get a DVR-921 when they come out and move my 6000 to my bedroom and connect it to a small Samsung HDTV LCD set.

I will get the SuperDISH FREE upgrade.

If you jump on the 6000 deal, does that mean when you upgrade to Superdish, you have to commit to an ADDITIONAL year of service? If that's the case, then Charlie is a pretty smart guy.

Commit for a year to get a cheap 6000, then commit for another year to get free Superdish.

My concern with jumping on the 6000 is that it wasn't clear what the 811 and 921 deals will be. I could be possible that the deals on the 811 and 921 would not be available to people who get the deal on the 6000!

Why buy old technology?

I will wait for the 811 or 921.

Who knows, it has happened before, the 6000 may end up NOT being compatible with some new feature that they may introduce next year due to software limitations.

The 6000 may have troubles with some kind of newer Enhanced TV or some kind of Interactive TV.

Like Charlie said, the boxes have little computers in them. Why by an old out dated computer that will be too slow next year?

I think the $199 offer is a trick, just so they can dump there inventory and make more money. If NO ONE buys any 6000 maybe they will give up and release the 811/921 sooner.

Uh, no.

There has NEVER been a deal where grabbing one deal excluded you from any others (with the exception of the lease plan which adds a monthly fee to cover those "free' receivers you have)

You MAY wind up having to extend for another year on top of the one you have, but his may not be a deal breaker. Anyone who absolutely HAD to switch to D* for any reason (NFL or baseball, or being REALLY sensitive to buggy equipment) will have already jumped. The rest of us can live with another 12 - 24 months of Charlie in exchange for these deals.

I was shocked that the Superdish is going to have a free upgrade deal from day one. I saw the 6000 fire sale coming based on my Dishplayer experience where they dumped them, but the Superdish announcement knocked me out of my chair.

I got blocked from getting another promotion because I was still within the 1 yr commit. They kept saying I could only have one promotion on my account at a time. I bitched and moaned to no avail. Eventually I think they said I could tack another year on to the end of my 1st year... dumb CSRs

I'm gonna hold onto my 6000 until the bitter end... i.e. new HD channels come out that I HAVE to have and are only on SuperDish. I dont see any coming that I would put in that category.

I sold off one of my 6000s. They have been relegated to bedroom service. The only problem I have right now is trying to decide on the 921 or not. I will get an 811 to replace the 6000. The upgraded guide alone makes it worth it.

Right now I am trying to decide between th 921 and the 721... I was all set on the 921, but the thought of paying a monthly fee FOREVER after spending $999 to start with still naws at me. Plus 921 is still a ways away and the 721 is here now...

I'm wondering if you get the 6000, and then the superdish promotion, are you then committed to 2 years? It's 2 separate promotions, right?

We don't know the answer to that yet.

I would assume that it is two separate promotions (unless you want to try and upgrade to both on the same phone call.... I don't know how this rule is gonna play out)

Well in prison terms where I work, you can serve two sentences at the same time or consecutively. Hey it works for convicts why not Dish customers?

Maybe there will be a promotion for the 921. Speculation: AT100+HD Pak+2 year commitment, just $499 for 921? Maybe?

If the HD Tivo is gonna be $899 or $799 or whatever it is then I speculate maybe a small price drop on the 921 eventually.

I have two 6000's already and am waiting for my 921. My sister, however, is going to get the 6000 deal because she'll be upgrading to HDTV for the first time Sep. 16th and has legacy dish 500 equipment. One of my receivers has to be a 6000 because I use it with an old widescreen computer monitor and need the VGA out that is missing on the 811.

Don't hold your breath....... They will give you a product that costs THEM $30 or $40 to lock you up for a period of time. NOT a discount on something that probably costs them $600 to produce.
