Does anyone know whether you can pick up the E* birds at 148 in Hawaii (Oahu)? I keep getting different answers and the search function didn't say much. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

Here is a web page with a "look angle" calculator.

put 148 in as the W. longitude and your zip code. You should have no problem seeing the satellite.

Hi chunke1, and welcome to DBSTalk! :hi:
You should have no trouble at all being able to pick up the 148 bird in Hawaii. :)

chunke1,
Sorry, but the 2 satellite that Dish uses at 148, Echostar 1 and 2, were built with CONUS(Mainland) Only Beams. Even though the 148 location is fairly close to Hawaii, those 2 satellites are aimed in a way that the beam is oriented away from Hawaii, thus it's not realistically possible to receive a signal from 148 currently. If your really have to have what's on 148, a 2.4 to 3 meter dish is what you'll need costing $2200+.

That, I didn't know. Wow...sorry for the misinformation. People in Alaska can pick up 148 signals with no problems, so I assumed that Hawaii would be the same. My apologies!

Thanks everyone for the information. It's a good thing that I found out it's a no go now, otherwise I'd be on my roof for 6 hours trying to figure out why I can't get the damn sat to lock in

TV Japan is now uplinked on the 119° spot beam to Hawaii channel 641. That is the only international channel specifically beamed to Hawaii.
