I tried to get DirecTV, where I live... but I have not been too successful, I visit the website... enter my zip, I get sent to a website called localprovider.org. I call the number and they say "go to Best Buy".

I call a local guy, he says "yea I'll install a basic 1 room system for $99" or go to Best Buy buy it and I'll install it... No promo offers seem to be applicable in my town either. I inquired to the local guy about DirecTivo, all I got from him is "I dont sell that". The website won't let me order with my zipcode... Yea I can enter a zipcode for another town in another part of the state and I see the offers.

So the long and the short is, I am going with Dish Network. Free equipment and semi-free install. I am not going to chase somebody around and beg them to sell to me anymore.

anybody else ever heard of such problems trying to buy from Directv?

There are 3 companies that sell the same service..DirectTv, Pegasus, and the NRTC and it all depends on where you live. Pegasus & NRTC resell DirectTv. So from what you said, you are probably in either a Pegasus or NRTC area, and they don't have the same deals as Direct. It sounds weird, but that is how the original agreement was setup. Heck, where I live is Direct (Duluth, MN), but 15 miles up the road (Two Harbors) is the NRTC.

You can buy Pegasus systems through www.americansatellite.com and www.orbitsat.com I don't know about installation prices, but their equipment and programming prices are slightly higher than Directv. Where do you live?

There are strange D* / Pegasus boundaries in Cent IL. If you look up Champaign, you'll find some zipcodes are D* and some are Pegasus.

Since Dish is planning to actually do Champaign/Springfield locals, it may of been a better choice for you.
