View Full Version : Dish and IP control
Does Dish have IP control functionality similar to DirecTV yet?
They have an iPad/iPhone app that gives you realtime transport controls plus arrow keys and OK. You can view your DVR playlist and the guide and pick a channel to watch live and it switches to the selected channel, or you can playback a recording. Response is pretty much instantaneous. Works very well, IMO.
If you have the sling-enabled DVR (922), I think you can also stream live tv and your recordings. I don't have one of those, so I can't say if or how well that works.
I don't really know what DirecTV has, so I can't say if it's similar or not. Last time I checked, D*'s IP control was still in the testing phase, and one guy had built his own interface. Dish's is fully functional and available to everyone now for free.
I don't know if the API is available to other developers or not.
I'd be glad to fire up the old iPad later and give you more details.
Yeah, I'm pretty much just looking for remote transport button IP control through an iPad app. If there is a published protocol I'd love to see it.

Anyone else find an API to do this? I have the Dish app for iPad and Android (both work great), but I am looking for some sort of IP control to possibly work with my HDPVR. DVBLink can control DirecTV via IP (as the OP stated)
