I have noticed in some of the threads that people are not happy with broadcast quaility. I am Dish subscriber , but as I am changing over to HD, I am considering going with A Direct Reciever and package. Does anyone have any comments about HD picture quaility of Dish vs Direct.

I just switched to Diret TV and got their HD package. So far I am very pleased with the PQ. I was not a Dish Network HD subscriber s oI can not offer comparision, but I can say that I have the Huges E86 and am very happy with it. My non HD channels look better than they did whe nI was with Dish.

I also just switched to D* after 6 years with Dish. I didn't have an HD receiver with Dish, so I can't speak to the quality of their channels, but can tell you that I'm very pleased with the quality of the DirecTV HDs to this point. I'm using a Samsung SIR-TS160 box fed to a Samsung 507 50" DLP and the picture quality has been very, very good thus far. I had OTA HD only prior to my switch, and I cannot tell any difference in the quality between the two.
I was worried about SD picture quality on D* after reading some of the comments here, but actually found that the quality is as good or better than Dish on most of the SD channels.
So far, I'm 100% satisfied with the switch.

You didn't mention what size TV you were switching to. If it's anything less than 42", you won't notice a difference at all between the two.

Thanks again for the info. I had been with Dish about that long to. I'm just tired or waiting for dish. They do alot of talk, but they just don't seem to be interested in the HD customers. I've have just purchase a 73 Mit. and Iam dying to see a HD signal on it. I really liked the Samsung DLP's . Hope to get one when I can afford another TV.

I jumped to D* last week after several years and many empty promises from E*. I had the 6000 with E* and now have the E86 and have to admit that what I read here about PQ had a bit concerned. My opinion is that the PQ is the same on my Tosh 50" WS.

The PQ in my opinion is about the same. Sometimes one over hte other look better than each other. Now versus cable, they are both a little behind, my guess is due to compression.

I too have switched and one thing I have noticed is the audio on D* drops out here and there while watching different shows. Anyone else notice this?

I was a Dish subscriber from 1997 till a couple of months ago. I had a Dish 6000 HD receiver with both 8PSK and 8VSB modules. I now have a Sony SAT 200 HD receiver and I am very pleased with the HD picture quality on DirecTv. It is as good as, if not better, that anything that I got (OTA or satellite HD) on Dish.

I got tired of waiting for Dish to offer more HD programming. I'm happy with the switch. I also have 2 DirecTv SD receivers (both Hughes) and the picture quality on them is very good also.
