View Full Version : DVR and "Moving"
Currently, I have "moved" to another (My Parents) and tel# to avoid Pegasus. I would like to jump in on the FFDVR deal and hook to use the TIVO. However, I am concerned about the DVR having to be hooked up to the phone line.
1. Could I purchase it an hook it up to a phone line other than my service address ?
2. Could my service address phone number be changed while maintaining the same physical address on the account ?
3. Could I purchase it and leave it unplugged from the phone line ?
What should I do ?

Probably should be moved to the D board

If you are using the phone line now, DON'T worry about it w/moving. D* (or E* for that matter) don't care whether the phone# is actually THE one on the account. As far as actually NEEDING a phone line on the Tivo, I understand you really DON'T anymore, other than you will get a couple nag screens that you don't have a phone line, but it will still record fine.

It is my understanding that you do need a phone line for the initial setup of the Tivo. After that you can disconnect it but will have to put up with a daily nag screen.

Love my 508 no such nag screen to remind me my phone line is not conected. It sounds like the D* recivers do alot of dialing out.
There's no reason to keep the phone line disconnected. DIRECTV does not trace your phone number back to your address, so in moving you only need to give them a different address, not the phone number at that address. Give them your actual phone number, plug the TiVo in, and enjoy.
