I live in a fringe area but using separate 40 in dishes have no problm with signals from echostar 7 at 119 or sat 6 at 110. signals average 80%. my problem is with sat 8 at 110. All transponders give low signal and there is huge variation with time of day .Trans 1, 9 and 21 are only locked for 2 hrs in the afternoon even on clear days. All signals are 0% with clouds or rain. Line of path is clear new rg11 cables ann new california amplifier lnbf.In line amplifier makes problem worse. Cannot find any info on the foot path of echo 8. Would appreciate any suggestins.

You ARE aware that certain transponders are Spot-beams, and probably not receiveable in your location ?

119 - 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9 - on 110 - 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10 are likely to show 0 strength (or greatly reduced, since you're not in boresite of them).

Suggestion - even larger dishes is about the only thing that may help, although possibly, better pointing of the 110 dish may help some. But nothing will help the spotbeam transponders - you get them or you don't.

I do have a list of all the spot beams and naturally these read 0%. My problem is with trans that I previously got like 1. 7, 9, and21on the echostar 8. I will have another try at tweaking. the dish using a sat meter.I have read that the echo 6 is at double power so this may cause the difference.Should also note that a friend living 10 miles away has the identical problem.

The only solution is probably a larger dish, like those they use in Alaska and Puerto Rico.

Aren't you aware that is illegal to receive DISH Network (and DirecTV) programming in Canada?

It is also illegal to have bell express vue in the USA yet there are thousands upon thosands of these dishes in your country. Why dont you ask the fbi to investigare?

One difference - it is NOT illegal for us to buy Canadian DBS - it is merely a violation of rebroadcast agreements for the Canadian DBS services to sell directly to US residents. Thus, you see those US citizens using another company as their "Canadian Address broker". In Canada, your government HAS passed a law that does restrict you from purchasing US DBS services. All that being said, it does not pertain to your problem - the consequences of which YOU will have to deal with - I'm not here to make judgements on that aspect.

And on to your problem - I really think you will need larger dishes better aimed, at least for 110. Good luck.

Just because some DBSTalk administrator posted (in another thread) that it is illegal does not make it true. There is no FCC rule or federal law that makes subscribing to a foreign satellite service illegal in the U.S. It is true that Canadian satellite vendors won't knowingly activate a system outside Canada though.

I think it would be helpful if I explained my own situation here in canada. I am biligual (english and spanish ) like 400,000 other canadians. It would be a suprise for our american friends to know that there is not ONE spanish channel in this country. When this was raised at the supreme court hearing the response from bell express vue was that we could watch french! I subscribe to a company here that uses an american adress. So far this company has had no legal problems since the spaninh speaking vote is important. I now get 12 spanish channels. I will switch to a canadian satellite as soon my language cultural and heritage needs are met.

Not correct.... Try reading the Communication Act of 1934 -- as amended. 47 USC s 605 (Section 705 of the Communications Act)
Sec. 605. Unauthorized publication or use of communications.

PaulMCO,

You have misinterpreted section 705. The lawyers have been through that 100s of times. It is not illegal, and no one in the U.S. has ever been charged with violation of section 705 for watching foreign satellite service.
