Yes, I notice guide lag, generally every time there's a software upgrade. And, yes, a reboot generally fixes the problem, but not always.

I usually reboot to solve the problem...

but I can't help but wondering if this is bad for the DVR?
(assuming that some sort of software update is slowing
it down in the first place)

Always Reboot the DVR by using the Menu Reset Method rather than the Red Button Reset as it allows the Processor to Gracefully Shut Down any Processes or Active Tasks that it is engaged in.

Not sure where the red button is or the Menu Reset Method.

If Dish would let me upgrade my 722 to a 722k I would have known that. Been trying for about a year.
