We get the exact same HD package as DirectTV for the same price only 3 months later? All we get is the status quo? Charlie needed to hit a home run with this one, but instead he hit a single.
This may appease current HD customers, but it certainly won't gain many new ones. E* (despite their claims) no longer has any advantage over D* in the HD market, and by instituting these asinine DVR fees, they have lost any advantage they may have had in the DVR market as well.
The HD PVR market? Well, they've blown any advantage they might have had there as well by failing to get the 921 to released. They could have gained a lot of customers had they been able to realease it 6 months ago, but now with HD Tivo right around the corner, many who might have jumped ship to get the 921 will now just wait a couple of extra months to get HD Tivo.

I tend to agree with you. Charlie really didn't offer any "blockbuster" deals to differentiate E* from D*. The HD package price is only slightly less and the HD offerings aren't that much different (better/more) than D* has been offering for some time. Maybe I just didn't understand the offer(s) completely but I don't see any reason for some of the rave reviews that I have seen posted.
In the interest of full disclosure, I switched from E* to D* back in August because I wanted to watch football in HD from the first game. So far, I am very pleased with D*.

Putting the four new HD channels on the 110 bird alone is a Homerun for E* in my book.

Actually, E*'s HD package is $1 less.
We all agree that E* has the infrstructure to support more HD programming than D*. But, that infrastucture is not ready, and I bet the folks at E* became aware that HD customers were churning to D*.
So, I'll accept parity for the time being. But my expectations are quite high for HD on E* and I expect them to be met - and soon.
Also, I have read that HD on Direct Tv is compressed, and won't be as good as HD on Dish. So, I am staying with Dish and Charlie Boy.

I believe I am keeping my mouth shut on this thread. Kicking a dead horse here. If you wanna go to D*.....GO! If not, shut the h@ll up and be happy. God some of the people on this board I wonder about sometimes. OK, I guess i didn't keep my mouth shut, Oh well!
Just caught the Voom press release. If the service actually starts, that's going to be a very interesting situation for Charlie to deal with. The Voom HD package absolutely trounces anything else out there... The fact that the service will be sold in Sears is good and bad. Good that it gets national attention, bad because it's the wrong forum to sell the product. naturally it's also bad for Charlie. Still it's just idle thought until you can actually buy a subscription to the service that was promised.
Maybe i'll start a Voom marketing thread later.

Do you think that Voom will need more than those HD offerings in order to make it as a satellite business? Seeing Dish's plans on adding up to 50 HD channels in the future, I think so. I believe that they plan on leasing the HD receiver along with the other receivers as well. They also plan on having DVR receivers that they will lease. This company reminds me of Primestar when it was available.
The customers did not have to go through a credit check and have a credit card to get the service but at that time hardware was expensive so that is why the lease was needed and the customers still had to pay $49-$199 or more for installation. This could work well for the company if they were to lease HD DVR's and other HD receivers in which is more expensive.

See, this is what I kep saying was going to happen. I knew that having ESPN-HD for the first NFL game was necessity, and nearly a necessity for the first college football game. This may be too late for some. Not too little, just too late.
is there a company website for voom yet or any information on prices of packages besides avs?

Not once in my post did I ever say I was going to switch to D* or that I even wanted to switch. I don't want to switch; I want E* to be the leader in HD. But, they are simply not at this point, and they need to quit making the empty claim that they are.
I have invested a lot of money in HD, and I have been waiting on Charlie to deliver on his promises for quite some time now. I got tired of waiting for a replacement for the 6000 some time ago and went ahead and bought and OTA tuner, so that I could at least watch my local offerings. I and many others have been anticipating the release of the 921 for over 2 years now!! And not only has it still not been released, but when it finally is we will now have to pay a fee to use it. And then at some point in the near future, we will have to invest more money to buy a SuperDish in order to get future HD offerings.
The price tag for being an E* HD customer is continually on the rise, and right now the content available is simply not worth it. That's why I was hoping for more than just the status quo.

Man, can't anybody come up with some new complaints now-a-days? The same old ones are getting boring.

You said decidely less than he did.
I agree with the OP. I was expecting more or the same for less or something. At a cost of $1500 (Superdish, DishPro, and Receiver) to get HD PVR with my current Dish Network system, I'll be waiting to see what type of new subscriber deal I can with with DirecTV for an HDTV.
