View Full Version : RCA 40 " HD and remote not working
I have an RCA 40" HD tv. The remote will change the channels but not turn the tv on or control the volume. I called dish and they gave me every code they had. No avail. They said call RCA which I did. The service rep said that according to my TV's serial number I needed to call TTE who makes RCA tV's. Cannot find a number for them. Does anyone have that number or some code that I can try?

What provider are you with? Dish Network or DirecTV or cable?
This post is in the wrong section, and I'd like to move it to a more appropriate area so that more people will see it and perhaps have an answer for you.

Which Dish remote model do you have? There should be a Version Number on the back of the remote, near the top.
If you have an older remote, it likely does not have any of the newer codes that TV manufacturers are using now. For some reason, most manufacturers change their TV codesets every few years, so newer versions of the remotes have to be made that have the new codes in them.
And, yes, RCA is really just a name anymore. They are currently manufactured by Audiovox.
I am with Dish network and the remote has the number 21 on the back. Please move my request for assistance to the correct area. Thanks

Okay, the v21 remote is the latest remote, BUT it is also a LEARNING remote, so if the codesets it comes with won't work, you can use your factory TV remote to "teach" the Dish remote to control your TV.

I checked my remote and it is a 20.0IR not a v21. I also went to the suggested web site and did the following. I checked my tv's code and found that it is 597. This code is not even listed on the dish network support site. I then followed the instructions for one remote to teach another. That did not work. My question now is will the instructions for a v21 remote work on a 20.0IR remote. I am still not able to control the volumn on my set with the dish remote nor an I able to turn the tv on or off using the dish remote. Anymore suggestions would be appreciated.
I don't think I've ever had an RCA or GE TV not work with code 503.
