OK, my JVC RX-884V seems to have died... Watching the DTivo last nite and it stopped all sound and video and the front display went dark. I've done everything I can think of to "reset" this receiver and I think it's dead. Sucks as it's only 5 years old....

Anyway, I'm gonna use this as an opportunity to upgrade my system... Am seriously leaning towards the Yamaha RX-V1300 as it is a definite step up and I can find a bunch on Ebay right now for ~$460 (MSRP is $799)

I need at least 4 optical ins to connect my DTivo, DVD, XBox, CD changer.... the JVC only had 2 so the DTivo and Xbox got connected and i've semi-mothballed the DVD (using Xbox) until I could get more inputs.

Does anyone have experience with Yamaha or the 1300??

Any feedback would be great!!

Brad

I don't know much about the 1300, but I'm currently using an RXv-3000 as my main A/V receiver in my lving room, and my 'old' RXV-2092 in a different area. Both have been totally trouble free (knock on wood), and support discrete IR codes for almost every function.

Brad,

I have not had the best luck with Yamaha, but that is not Representative of the brand. You may want to check out the Denon units with the discrete power supplies, and be sure to implement six channel sound on whatever you buy. The matrixing software does a fine job converting 5.1 to 6.1, and 6.1 native sources are terrific.

Happy hunting,

I had a RXV992. It sounded great, but I had to get rid of it. When I pushed it real hard, its saftey feature would kick in an turn itself off. Glad I did not fry it, but it was very aggravating to be hosting a party and have your receiver turn off.

My sister now has the unit and works like a champ for her. I ended up wtih Sony ES seperates. More expensive but have never turned off. Would not reccomed them either though. The software has not been updated in a long time.

Beware that DTivos are known to have problems with Yamaha and Kenwood optical ins.

I personally have the RX-V1200 and am incredibly satisfied w/sound, price, etc. The 1300 should be good for you. Make sure you spend good money on your speakers and invest in same brand speakers all around. The sub you can make a diff't brand.

Good options, configuration choices...remote isn't so hot.

Only problem I've had is that the SVideo out on the receiver has had issues recently. Won't be a problem (I hope) once I move to an HDTV in the future.
