I just thought of something else. Do you have to have a phoneline attached to your receiver to use the DVR feature?

No, you do not need the phone attached for the DVR features. The phoneline is attached mainly for Pay-Per-View purchases.

If you have kids or anyone else in the house who doesn't understand how to navigate the menus well then I'd actually recommend that you don't keep the receiver plugged up. Just incase they accidently order a PPV movie or other channels.

But if they ordered a movie then won't the movie be reported whenever you do plug in the receiver or doesn't it lock up after a while?

No, as soon as you order any channel or movie, it tries to report it right then and there. If it's not able to then it won't order it.

edit.

Damn. I know i've tried it before but i went ahead and tried to order a ppv movie anyway. i don't have the phone line plugged up. and the movie went through. it didn't even try to make a connection. Anyone have any idea what's going on?

edit2:

ok, just talk to dish. apparently the first couple movies you order, they will ask for a phone line. then it is just stored on the receiver to whichever comes first, 60 days, $100+ or 9 movies. You will then be asked to plug up a phone line and will not be able to order another movie til you do. I guess this makes it convienient for people but what's stopping ppl from buying an old 2700 on ebay and racking up $100 and then getting rid of the receiver? Dish is going to issue me a credit, but they said it would not "reverse" it unless a plugged up a phone line? Would they know if i didn't plug it up, or does it matter? I figure since i ordered it and they will only do this once (taking back a charge), i might as well take advantage and watch it.

It does not call out every time.

Sometimes it stores movies for up to 3 months and then BAM!! you get hit all at one time for all those ppvs you bought. OUCH!! it really spikes the old bill. :eek2:
