I bought a HD TV over a year ago and have 2 component inputs on the back. I am looking to purchase a 811 or 921 when they come out. I saw the specs and noticed both have DVI and component outputs. I read somewhere (maybe here in a forum) that the component outputs would only output 480p. The DVI outputs would carry the 720p or 1080i signals. Is this correct??? Do I need to buy a new TV????
Confused in Wichita Kansas!!!!!

No, that is not correct. The component outputs will output the 720p and 1080i signals. However, the component outputs on the 811/821 can be "downrezzed" to 540p (compatible with 1080i sets) if content providers were to require it in future contracts. However, I don't expect that to happen anytime soon for the channels we typically watch--it will probably come to PPV and VOD first. The FCC has just recently ruled that there can be no downrezzing for over-the-air broadcasts, and they will further address the issue for other cable channels in the near future.
In summary, there is unlikely to be "downrezzing" over component for HD channels anytime soon. I suspect it will be at least several more years before any limits are placed on HD component output.

Cheesehead.
The new receivers will support many resolutions on their component outputs Likely 1080i, 720p, 480p, & 480i. There is an encryption scheme that content providers support that would dictate that if your Receiver is connected to your TV via Digitally encrypted DVI (HDCMP?) then you'd get full HDTV (1080i or 720p), but if you use components or non encrypted DVI, then the HDTV program would be reduced to a lesser resolution such at 540i or 480p.
Now with all that said, all of the HDTV receivers will connect just fine to your HDTV. I'd just check your inputs. A friend of mine has an HDTV with two component inputs. One is 480i/p (DVD) and the other is 1080i (HDTV). So make sure both of your are HD, and if not both, then which one is.
Good luck.
