I called dish today to get the 6000 deal. I was told I couldn't get the receiver because I lease my equipment. The CSR told me I would have to buy the 6000 for a local retailer at full price.

I have just spent 40 minutes talking with 2 csrs and 2 supervisors, and they will not give me the 6000 for $199. They said I have to go to a retailer and that this deal is not for new subscribers. This is the "short" of what was probably the worst customer service runaround I have ever received.

Maybe they should rent the bloddy 6000s. Think about it. If they make you commit for a year and it's an extra $15 to rent that's $180 at the end of the year and if you give it back they'll just sell it as refurb or rent it out again.

another reason I am regretting my switch the dish network now. If this keeps up I'm going to drop to the at50 package and if i get a hdtv next year will probably go with directv or comcast because i'm not paying $600 for a hdtv receiver it's just not worth it when i don't have to pay a dime for one from comcast and can get one for $200 from directv.

In some ways it is good not having an HDTV yet, you get to see how some of this fleshes out before making a purchase. I will say things are not always as they seem with cable. Currently I subscribe to TWC for a special "campaign" rate of $42(comparable AT150 + locals + HBO/Cinemax) for their hd service. I thought about possibly dropping dish(keep $5 access thing), especially since I worry about when the 811 will come out, then maybe reconsidering dish when their offerings are actually available. So I looked into getting one of those PVR systems from TWC, and it would of been $15 to add that PVR box to my hi-def box (if I didn't subscribe to road runner, it would of been $18). Although if they ever do have an hdtv pvr system, that would be real nice. I am also quite scared to think what will happen when the campaign rate expires, how much will my bill be? TWC never seems to want to tell me when I ask.

Anyway, I personally think top 50 is best thing dish has going for it now (since they got rid of free PVR). Has pretty much every channel I really watch (except FX). With 2 receivers(1 pvr) + locals + new HDTV package, my monthly bill will average $43 for the year, which isn't bad at all.
