Okay I am a relative DBS neophyte. I have a Dish 500 Twin and I have a 508 and 501 as my receivers. I wanted to utilitze my 301 so I called Dish and asked what I had to do, tech said all I had to do was pay $4 a month and wire it up. So now you know my problem, Tech was remiss in not telling me I also need a Quad LNB.
So my question is, how much for a Quad LNB and where is the best place to pick one up? Any major installation issues?
I tried to search the forums but didn't find the right thread, I apologize if I missed something easy.
Tack (Swedish for Thanks),
Kevin

Is that a DishPro TWIN LNB or a Legacy Twin LNB ?
If it is a Dishpro TWIN - buy a DP34 switch, put both outputs from the LNB to the SAT inputs o nthe DP 34, then connect all your receivers to the OUTPUTS of the DP34.
If it is a Legay TWIn - then replace the TWIN with either a Legacy QUAD LNB or a DishPro QUAD LNB (prefered). For right now, you could run each cable directly to the LNB.

I got the system about 2 years ago, it is a Dish 500 Twin satellite, anyway to figure out which TWIN it is?

If it says DP (DishPro) on the front of the lnbf in bold lettering then you know it is DishPro. I would say its not a DishPro twin due to the fact that they did not make them a few years ago.

I found a Dishpro Quad in the classified section of the other dbs group... dbsforums.com .Also check ebay. As far as install all I did was remove twin and put on quad then did check switch on all receivers. That was it!

A switch will always be cheaper than upgrading to a quad lnb. I'd go with that if I were you.
I bought my DP quad brand new from a dealer for $119.00. It was super easy to instal as some one mentioned above just pull existing lnb and hook it up. If you have 2 Dual lnb's you will have 4 coax cables. 2 for 119 and two for 110. on a DP quad lnb the switch is built in so the 4 cables that connect to it run straight to the receivers. Of course this is useless if you have the wing sat's. Also I am not a dealer so please beware. I am sure if I said any thing wrong I will be corrected. good luck!
cj9788 you are right you will be corrected. What you are describing is 2 dual LNBs a
twin would only have 2 cables comming out.

Okay stupid question, see beginning of thread where I proclaim my ignorance ;)
Is the "lnbf" behind the white plastic cover on the arm that is out in front of the dish? So would I have to remove the white plastic cover to look at the "lnbf" to check for the "bold lettering"? Again sorry for my lack of knowledge.

Okay I pulled my cranium out of my glutious (sp) maximus and went and looked at the lnbf. It has the Dish Logo and then says "Digital LNBF".
I assume that means it's not a DishPro?
Thanks again

If it doesn't say "DishPro" then it isn't - it's a Legacy.
Try www.switchinfo.info/lnbs.html it should answer your question.

Well I am gettin better at this only one mistake is good right. Thnks i have edited my post.

If it was DishPro it would indicate that on the outside of the lnbf (looking towards the dish reflector). Below is a picture of what the DishPro (DP) twin lnbf looks like.
