I wasn't aware that there were any consumer televisions that had the full native 1080I resolution and I thought that only very expensive crt front projection systems could do the full 1080I resolution.
It turns out that there are actually tvs out there now that can do full 1080I resolution.
Here's a good article on this subject.

How long do you think it will be before they have tvs with full 1080p native resolution?

I think that TV is 1080p and the price is expected to drop next year.

Aren't most of the widescreen HDTV's 1080i? The one I'm looking at says
"Widescreen 1080i display (with protective screen filter) for maximum impact from HDTV sources "
Is 1080p, if there is such a thing, better than 1080i?

most fixed pixel tvs are 720p Many tvs that aren't fixed pixel will show the 1080 or 720 scan lines, but not the full 1920 pixels
Unthinkable

Yes it is and it does indeed exist.

All that means is that they can display a 1080I signal.
It doesn't mean that they have 1920x1080 resolution.
Almost all HDTVs display 1080I at a lower resolution(much lower in some cases) than 1080I(1920x1080).
Think of it sort of like hooking up a DVD player that has 540 lines of horizontal resolution to a tv that has only 270 lines of horizontal resoution.
You won't get the full visual detail, but you will still be able to view dvd movies and you will still get improved picture quality over older video sources.
The same thing is true for most HDTVs, you don't get full 1920x1080 resolution, but you will still able to view the 1080I show, movie, sporting event, etc with vastly imporoved picture quality over standard def material.
Funny how it's HDTV but not "TRUE" HDTV. This is why HDTV is fustrating!
