I just got a call from Dish today. They said that since I was a good customer, that they would offer me Cinemax for just $3.01 a month. There was no minium commitment, and the price would be perpetual (or at least they'd call me before changing it).
Considering Cinemax HD is around the corner I took it.
Anyone else get deals like this?

Well if you have HBO it is a standard package price. i get that call quite a bit.
Is that the price it is when you buy HBO+Cinemax pack. I never really figured the price per channel eg the price for HBO and the price for Cinemax.
I just want to figure out if I can get a better deal here.

It is the standard price. You can add Cinemax for $3.01. You have been able to since the last price increase.

They hired a 3rd Party Telemarking firm to do this.
THey call you making it sounds like your getting a special discount. When you do th e math it is the SAME PRICE that you can order on there web site.
It is a trick.
Got one for Showtime two weeks ago also.

Damn, I should have called her a 'punk ass'. oh well, If they add the HD channel by the end of 2003, I would have added it anyway for that price.
Cinemax has some good movies, I went ahead and got the hbo/max pkg because it wasnt that much more, I have to have HBO for Sex and the City, and Sopranos
...and maybe Carnivale

Well technically being able to "add" Cinemax "for" $3.01 is not a bad deal. They just present it in a tricky or misleading way.

It is not a bad deal. But it is a standard deal. They were dishonest.

My nephew got a deal where he got Cinemax free for six months when he took HBO. He called and cancelled HBO before the six months were up and he was still receiving Cinemax for free and it showed up on his bill as $0.00. I think they started charging for it after the six months and he called and cancelled it. They did not even charge him the $5.00 downgrade fee.
