Are you using dishpro or a legacy system?

As many of you know I had multiple receiver failures, and 508s ran fine on the 721 coax connections. I am wonderiing if theres a connection between 721 failures and being on a dishpro setup.

Bob,

I sure as hell wish you would learn how to do a poll. This one doesn't make a lot of sense. You need to quantify the (number of) failures with what type of equipment the user has. Even then, the poll still won't give you any accurate results since there are so many other variables you are not asking about.

Bob,

I feel for you and you indeed may be our leader in 721 problems but with respect ...

In my experience DishPRO problems may, can, and do come in many flavors. Not listed in order of inportance might be:

1. Cable with too narrow a bandwidth for DishPRO. DishPRO requires cable with a bandwidth of up to 2150mhz if I remember the spec. Some dealers and installers are not using the correct cable. Some dealers, installers, AND owners are upgrading to DishPRO using the existing cable at a site which may or may not be adequate.

2. Improper or no grounding at all of the dish itself. This can cause a myriad of strange problems and might result in a static discharge that takes out part of the LNB (really acts wierd) or kills it entirely.

3. That a Dish receiver OTHER than a 721 may operate correctly in a DishPRO installation is not an indicator that a 721 will. It seems the 721s are much more sensitive to known and unknown (at least by us users) input and variables in the DBS system than 50x and previous series Dish receivers.

Bob,

Is this where you've been getting your receivers?

Bill post how this SHOULD be worded and I will change it!

As I said before I am not a pro at asking poll questions.

Incidently my question wonders if dishpro users have more multibox failures. That is all....

It APPEARS a small minority have repetive failures, and I wonder if the likely small number of dishpro users are somehow related?

My original 721 came from metro, of course all those after that are E refurbs:(

Hi all,

I've had my 721 for about 9 months. I used a legacy twin with a SW21 for a couple of months and then switched to a legacy quad with no external switches. All cabling is RG6. (Someone please tell Charlie I've always done my own installations and had nothing but joy - and would prefer to do so when and if I upgrade to a 921/Superdish). The box (actually JVC branded - from Sears) is the original and has worked well except for minor software bugs. It's never been replaced or shown any obvious hardware problems. This setup has been immune to most of the problems discussed in these forums. Must have been built on a Wednesday...

Bob,

If you are trying to establish some relationship between multiple receiver failures and dishpro equipment word it that way. First, establish the number of receiver failures ("How many 721 receivers have you had to replace?" and to do it right you have to ask the TYPE of failure), then ask about the the type of LNBs and switches ("dishpro or legacy"). Even then the poll will still not be accurate since you are not taking into account the many other variables in the setup.

I'm sure if there was some problem with dishpro LNBs and 721s the dealers would have been sent the information telling them what NOT to use when installing a 721.

We don't doubt that you are having all the trouble you are having (with 721s AND 50x receivers). I just believe that there is "something" else (electrical or other) that is causing the unusual number of failures you are having.

I think that the cabeling has more to do with the 721 working right ot not. I have Dish and Directv on the same outside pole. I am going to cut off Directv in November so I was going to use the Directv cabeling since it was in the same spots as Dish and on the same pole.( that way I would have two cables for a two tuner receiver like a 721 in the master bedroom also.) The directv cable was smaller then the cable for Dish and when I switched the cable from the Directv Dish and hooked it to the Dish 500 , the 721 couldn't see the switch. It thought I was trying to use a legacy switch with a dishpro and said as much on the error message that popped up. So I think that the cabeling might be the reason why it wouldn't work. Maybe the Dish cable was quad sheilded or had more band with than the Directv cable and thats why it wouldn't work. So maybe the cabeling that people or using isn't right for the 721. Some people use rg59 cables made for cable tv but do it with 508s and it works fine but the 721 must be more sensitive.
