Looking to purchase a new D* and Tivo unit. I really want more than 35 hours capacity unit The new 100 hours units are starting to come out. Debating on whither I should but buy a 35 hour unit and upgrade it or buy a new 100 hour + unit.
Also the current deal is the NFL Sunday ticket which I don't have any interest in. Does anyone have any thoughts on other deals coming out? I would think that other deals are coming as well. I have seen the new Hitachi for about $280 so far. This is about $100 more than me doing the upgrade but it sounds faster as well. Now only if it had RF remote.
Should I buy now or wait?
Thanks in advance

I would buy now. While you may not have interest in the NFL ST package, the current deal for new subs is fantastic, giving you every other channel (except foreign language programming) for less than $60 per month. Now couple that with the Tivo deals for less than $100 total and I think you are getting a helluva deal. You can always upgrade later if you want to. Most people seem to be able to live quite confortably with 35 hours. YMMV.

I thought that maybe someone had seen a pattern here like the deals get better closer to Xmas. I seen other posts talking about a start of the free DVR war. My main issue is the 35 hour record time / quality of the current DVR's. I have 60 hours now and I want at least that much. I seen posts about low quality picture and slow guides on the current model. There is also a few models coming out. I know there have been posts bout the new Hitachi saying about how great the picture quality / speed is.
It's SO easy to upgrade a Tivo. I just bought an HDVR2 a couple of weeks ago. I already bumped it up to 120 hours. If you or a friend is a half-decent computer jockey, the upgrade will only take about an hour and cost you the price of a hard drive - dirt cheap these days, under $100 will do it. Or if you aren't much for computer hacking, you can order an upgrade ready to install or even send the thing off, or just buy one already upgrade from some online vendors.
NFL Sunday Ticket deal for new subs is way cool. That's what I have. Don't really watch a lot of football, but total choice premier which comes free with NFLST is a seriously target-rich environment for a Tivo.
Just go ahead an bite. Shop around for your best deal. I got my 2-room setup at Circuit City (1 tivo, 1 regular and a triple dish) and after all the rebates come in, the equipment will only cost me $66.

I agree with nuke. I also got NFLST promotion and my Tivos are recording like crazy... I think I never saw so many premium movies like now.
My package cost me about $72 (after shipping rebate) for 1 Tivo and 1 Director and later (couple of days after activation) I added an extra Tivo using the FFDVR promotion for $99 + $15 s/h more. It's a good deal. You can get the initial setup cheaper if you choose the dual LNB antenna, but if you want to have the option to watch International or HDTV programming in the future I'd recommed to go with the 3-LNB antenna, it's what I got.
If you look at other threads in this forum you will find superb deals. And if you wait too much there is the possibility of the FFDVR promotion ending, and also that installers and demand increase during the holiday season, so you could wait a looong time to get your system installed.
Hope this helps.
