View Full Version : Should I extend my Dish commitment or wait?

I am a current Dish customer and have just passed my first year mark. I have not extended my commitment yet.

This is what I have:

Dish 500
(1) Dish 301 Receiver

I just got married two weeks ago so that is why I only have one receiver. Now I need a second receiver and would like to get a PVR. Also, I plan to buy an HDTV by early next year.

My question is, what should I do to get the best deal? I will probably need a SuperDish (to get HDTV) and I have also read about the PVR 921 and the TU-9000.

Is it possible to cancel and re-subscribe under my wife's name when the new receivers come out? I wouldn't go through that if I could get a decent price on a new tuner, etc.

Thanks.

It's a shame that you can't go month to month like cell phone companys do .

Call DISH and see what they offer, if you don't like the offer you can switch to Directv if you haven't been a customer before. To get a "NEW CUSTOMER" account with DISH in your wifes name may be possible but nothing that reflects your old account can be used. Different name, address, phone number, credit card numbers. You can't use anything that would connect her with you and the old account.
Rollua1 he can go month to month after completing his original contract but for DISH's upgrade promotions they require a 1 yr. programming commitment.

You won't be seeing any "deals" on the 921 for a long time if the cost rumors are true on this behemoth.

it will only be avaialble through third party installers or places like Dish Depot at big $$$$

You should explore your possibilities. See if you can get a good deal with D* even. Their PVR is supposed to be superior to E*'s and if you want more than one it's cheaper.

I don't think that you have to extend your commitment to continue to receive service. Just pay month to month and buy and add a new receiver when you want one.

Then I guess I'm just lucky because they gave me the $149 6000U w/ 8vsb deal without any commitment whatsoever. I'm currently m/m but will sell my soul for a good deal <G>

I'm not sure what you mean by this. When I first signed up with DISH 3 years ago, I had a "one year commitment." After that, it was month-to-month. I've never had to "sign" another commitment. If you're on the Dish Home Plan (or Digital Dynamite plan), that may be another thing where you originally leased the equipment and continue to do so, but after the first year, I believe that these also are month-to-month after the initial commitment period (1 or 2 years according to what YOU initially specified). If/when in doubt, call 1-800-333-DISH (3474) and find out! :)
