Here's my prediction for this and future upgrade release dates for the 721. Needless to say, I will not be taking any bets for the end of the month!

Upgrade from L1.12 . . . January 2004
Next upgrade which includes open T.V. . . .February 2005
Next upgrade which includes Internet . . . never, 721 will be considered obsolete and software development beyond normal maintenance will end.

I'll go one further and say that the upgrade from L1.12 will be the last feature release for the 721. I don't think E* will put any more effort into this product. Any releases after that will be critical bug fixes for the upgrade itself and that's it. No OpenTV (it may be in development, but it won't get released).

Then the OpenSource community will take over, and in another 3 years (2006) we will have a open version of the Operating System. : :D

Support for the SuperDish will demand that the next software rev be sent down long before Jan 2004. Reports of the 721's early demise have been greatly exaggerated imo.
