I have no idea of what it does, but I have received it twice in the past 3 days. It will be sent to everyone in your address book if you open the mailing.

TechTv says that Microsoft will NEVER email you a patch and to never open any attachments that says that Microsoft sent you, because it is not Microsoft.

You are correct, which is why I never opened it. I use Mailwasher which allows me to see messages on the server and preview them without downloading. I copied and pasted the output of the preview above.

I'm suprised your Anti-Virus program didn't catch it.
Mine is going crazy.. I must be getting 50 a day at work and 10 -15 at home.

MS will never send patches via E-mail.

I have MSN 9 and I have to resort to manually scanning my MSN 9 mail directory to catch the viruses. Norton AV 2004 caught yesterday 38 viruses....all the Swen worm. All the email, even the junk mail, gets put in a temp folder in MSN 9. So, you can guess the wonderful joy when I see those emails with 144k or more attachments. I havent even opened those, but Norton catches the viruses and deletes them automatically with a manual scan.

What is the virus count tonight? Two so far.

Just think......there have been reports of some people getting 2000 infected emails this month alone. All emails have the Swen worm. The people, btw, did post in Microsoft's newsgroups on a regular basis.

Well....make that a total of 16 viruses tonight. I just manually scanned and it caught more viruses. All of the threats were the Swen worm.

Granted, this is all serious business, but its also very frustrating. Im just happy and thankful that I upgraded when I did.

One of the first rules is to set Outlook Express to display ALL e-mails as plain text and disallow HTML. Zillions of things can happen if you allow the display of HTML. Works well on a segregated internal network, but there's too many dips with too much freedom and not enough brain cells lurking on the Internet.

I did downgrade to MSN 8.5 after trying the latest beta. I am still getting some of the wonderful emails with those attachments (sarcasm alert), but there have been no viruses. I thus have to put part of the blame on MSN's latest beta. What could MSN's software people been thinking making all the junk mail download to a specific folder in the hard drive, even if some of those emails could have dangerous attachments?
