View Full Version : Are locals really that important?
I had a BUD in the late 80's ,still have it and watched NFL Sunday Ticket up to this year on it . I have Dish network for many years now. Had to set up a NFL Sunday Ticket on Pegasus, only thing i get from them. I haven't watch any TV from the two local stations ABC and NBC, ABC doesn't have local news. Point being i have not watched local TV ,don't miss it and will not put up a ugly OTA antena to get it.

You guys are serviced by Pegasus in the UP? That sucks.

Hi esteg and welcome to DBSTalk! :welcome_s
I guess it really all depends on your point of view. I use my locals all the time to view local news and network programming. The thing that really makes me use them more is having a DVR. Since I can time shift the programming and cut commercials, I use my local channels more than any other channels on my dish.
So what I'm trying to say is that locals are important at least in my case.

Well, when Dish/Direct started to offer locals their sales took off. So it matters to other people.
I get the east national feeds for the networks, use them for some pimetime viewing. I live 5 miles form cable country so i am force to use Peqasus for NFLSTicket

It matters more to those that cannot pickup a signal OTA, does not have cable available, goes camping/travelling a bit taking their dishes with them, do not want to pay for cable when they could have the locals on Dish/Direct much cheaper, and can record the shows on their DVR receivers.

If locals weren't available on Directv in my area, I wouldn't have Directv. I was never able to get the wife to bite off on satellite until locals became available.

Locals aren’t a big deal for me either. NYPD Blue, Third Watch and the 2 CSIs are the only shows I watch on the networks. I'm not big into sit-coms (Drew Carry once in a while), I can't stand reality shows and I get my local news from the radio. With Dish, for the extra $3 for locals, I can record my shows on the 508 so it's worth it. I'd rather use my Radio Shack antenna for locals, which I don't consider ugly at all :), but it a pain to realign to get stations from Rochester and Toronto with decent PQ.
I didn’t mention football on Sundays since there’s no reason for me to DVR it, and with my antenna pointed right I can get more NFL action from Canadian OTA tv then I can on my locals.
