View Full Version : How loud is too loud?

Greetings . . .

I realize this is a subjective question, but hopefully someone can allay my fears . . .

I've had a HDVR2 for almost two weeks now and love it. My only complaint is that it seems to be a touch noisy. I know the fan stays running all the time, but how loud should it be?

I've seen other systems described as "whisper quiet" -- mine's definitely not that. If the TV's off, you can hear it across the room. While the TV's on, it's not really noticeable while the volume is at a normal listening level. I guess the best way to describe it is that it sounds like a desktop computer -- which, in a way, I guess it is.

We don't have a entertainment system or cabinet, so it's just sitting on the TV in the corner (which I guess could be amplifying it somewhat).

Again, I'm very happy with it, but not having anything to compare it to, I was just wondering. Is some noise to be expected, or should this really be "whisper quiet?"

Thanks,
Jason

Must be normal for the model.

Normal for the model. If you get bothered by it, the Vantec StealthFan 6025 is a direct fit replacement that's a lot quieter.

I think the HDs make more noise than the fan.
