I've been talking for the last couple of weeks about various surprises that are going to happen from time to time in the Survivor: Pearl Islands Contest.
Well, here's the first one: Everyone who gets the "trifecta" - a perfect score for the week will be awarded an extra 10 bonus points.
Week #1 has produced 3 out of 118 players with the trifecta - Congratulations to boma, JSkelton and tcriley!
Also, as per the rules, for the first 6 weeks of the contest, 1 player will be randomly drawn and be awarded 10 bonus points. The drawing for week #1 has been done, and the lucky winner of the 10 points is luckycat! That's an appropriate name!

A couple of people have asked this - the "trifecta" came out of the end of the Survivor: Thailand contest, and then continued through the Survivor: Amazon contest. Congratulations were passed all around for perfect weeks, so now in addition to the congratulations, points are awarded for it as well.
Shouldn't it be a quadfecta since there are 4 polls?

The random points award winner from Week #2 is Getcrafty! Congratulations!
Yeah, it really should be the "quadfecta", but regardless of how many polls in the past were posted, it was known as the "trifecta", so tradition wins over accuracy. :)
By the way, I've been planning the trifecta points for some time now - it was actually the first thought that I had about how to shake the game up a little bit as soon as Amazon ended.
Bonus points aren't going to be the only surprises along the way either. I have some other things planned as well that you'll see sooner or later. Some very much sooner...like maybe next week... :D

Mark, I'm waiting for the challenge that I can win and go take some of your points. :)

I really love that idea Maniacal1...have to give it some serious thought... :D
Excellent idea! :)
In keeping with the pirate theme, allow someone to pillage someone else's points, say 5 or 10 at a time. Maybe not someone winning the trifecta, that would give them too much of an edge. How about a random drawing, or whoever gets the most questions wrong. This would sure go a long way to preventing spoilers from dominating the contest.
This would be so cool!

Good idea JB. I'm open to suggestions on this one - anyone else have a thought about it?
ooh - me like. Hmm, Lamutt can't win anything but just to be sure he's not at the top of another contest, let's grab some of those points (btw, has anyone gone back and validated all of his voting since he IS the scorekeeper...interesting :)

How about this. All of those folks in the DBSTalk contest who correctly guess the actual Survivor who will "pillage" the other tribe are entered in a random drawing. The winner of that drawing gets to "take" 10 pts from someone else. Perhaps a random drawing of the top 5% in the field, don't know. Without making it too complicated...

Eek, I definately don't like the idea of folks swiping points from others, especially if they get to choose their target.
From what I've read on the various spoiler boards, the bootee information is about parched. Unlike last season, there is no easy roadmap of who goes far, with only the two first bootees being readily predicted. With no clear information available except what is shown in the various weekly previews, this game is now one of skill and observation. As proof of this point, the four people currently tied for 1st (myself included) all voted for different Boots this week.
If folks get to choose who to swipe points from, they will inevitably choose the leader, which takes away all incentive for trying to jump ahead, unless you wait till the very last week, and that week already has enough questions to make it anybody's game.
I know people don't like those who frequent the spoiler boards winning it all, but I think that making this a totally random contest (and punishing the winners by swiping points makes it almost that) takes away the fun as well.
Just my opinion.

How about we "pinch" Danny R's avatar!
I agree with him. Sounds like grabbing points would be fun, but could turn it personal and that would be a very bad thing. Mark is doing a great job with the spoilers and non traditional twists on the usual questions. Keep doing it the way you are, stay the present course.

Well I hope the fact the the spoiler sites drying up is true. Make the game a lot more fun. Due to the fact I know there was spoiler info out there I had to close my eyes when I voted so I did not see the results after I selected my choice.
As a suggestion Mark.. You might want to make the polls require an addition action after the vote so people that dont want to see who voted would not have to.. Then again, I can just look away like I do. Another suggestion would be to not let people see the voting patterns until they made there vote.
Great Game!! 2nd week and I am already enjoying it a ton!!! GOOOOOOO Rubert!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree - I think it's definitely more fun without the spoilers out there. We'll have to see if it's true I guess.
Unfortunately, I don't have either of those options with the voting. The only way you can see who has voted for which choice before you vote is to click on the View Results link below the poll. I can't take that option out of just the survivor polls - it would have to be deleted from all polls. And I don't want to do that. I could make it so that you can't see who specifically voted for which choice, but a lot of people wanted that option back in...
Glad you're enjoying it WeeJavaDude! That's why I do it!
