I've been a guest on this forum for over a year now. I have really enjoyed reading all the posts & have gleamed lots of info. This month marks the second year of having a rptv in the house, a Pany PT-56WXF95. Could never justify the scratch for a 6000 reciever just to watch a couple of hd channels. But with everyone's help from this forum I recieved & installed my 6000 last night. WHAT AN INCREDIBLE EXPERIENCE.
Not to mention I only paid $149.00 w/ 8vsb tuner no shipping charges. So I just wanted to say THANK YOU to each & everyone of you for all your help & thoughts on this matter, I really appreciate it.

This is my story also. I've had a HDTV for ovver a year and was never able to get HD. Well.... I'm a DHP customer and I had 6000 installed today for the same $149.00. He had to change my Dish to a legecy quad, and run the cable. So, the receiver, cable, LNB, and labor was definitly worht it. I had to complain to Charlie to get the deal, but it was worth it.
I then had my antenna guy (who was very good) come out and install a OTA antenna. Needed a professional because of my location. Could never get a digital signal on the meter, buy he installed an 8-bay Winegard (PR-8800), and a really good pre-amp, and we hooked it up to the 6000, and every channel came in fine. :D :D :D I was really suprised and happy. Even, the VHF channel here in Atlanta came in, so we did not installed a VHF antenna. The only bad news is after he left, the VHF channel (NBC) became very eratic, and unwatchable. So I guess I will get him back out to install the VHF antenna at a later date.
At first I was watching a football game on ESPN-HD and was not that impressed. Then later discovered that that game was not really HD. Turned on the Tenn - S. Carolina game which was in true HD, and was completely blown away. :D :D :D I am stoked.
Compared the regular Dish to the HD movie on ABC (Remember the Titans) that I was receiving OTA and again was amazed at the quality.
Yea!!! I finally have HD, I just had to let everybody know.

Now the bad news.... after watching HD for over a year, you come to EXPECT everything in HD.. it becomes the norm and you take it for granted .... wahhh...
The good news is that the early equipment and network bandwidth is not up to the total HD capability so it will get better over the years, just as regular TV and color TV did over time.
You will notice some HD is better than others ;)

My wife has been a customer since 97 or 98. Anyway I called on the 18th to order the 6k. Was informed by the csr that we are gold plated customers or something like that, was offered the $149 deal. I asked about the 8vsb flat out no. Told them other customers were getting it. After much gripping, moaning & groaning NO DICE. figured what the hell, I've really been jonesing for HDTV for a long time now.
After reading more posting on this matter here. I called back on the 20th to reorder the 8vsb. No problems or hassles but did get stuck with the $8.95 shipping cause my 6k had shipped on the 19th so they couldn't double pack them. Another what the hell $8.95 vs $149 street price = no brainer. Now all is right in my world or so I thought.
I called again on the 24th looking for my 6k. Was told that it only shipped on the 22cd & that I wouldn't see it until the 26th. Now I'm pissed asked to speak w/ a supervisor, explained it all to him. He promptly refunded my shipping charges. Now I'm starting to rethink this whole deal as to not worth the hassles & will this @#$@ ever end with these people. But that thought passes real Quick.
On the 25th my bill from E comes & on it are HDTV package charges dating back to the 18th. Now I'm back to being pissed off & on the phone again. Thank God that this converstion was over the phone & not face to face or I'd still be in jail. Was told that this problem would be resolved when I activated the 6k.
Well I got the 6k on the 26th my B-day by the way. I was watching HDTV less than 30 min after UPS dropped it off. Now for the next problem I can't watch sports on SDTV any more as the picture looks to @#$@# now. What a @#$!% being spoiled huh. Oh almost forgot, got into a real big hassle w/ the 1st csr & her supervisor. They wouldn't ship the 6k to me directly I had to have it installed by E or it was a no go. Told them that E installers are not allowed on my property after what they did to my house. I told them that I would cancel E alltogether if this was enforced. They agreed with me after I told them what happened.
But that is a story for another time. THANKS AGAIN FOLKS. sorry for the long post.
