I just installed an HDVR2 in place of an Echostar receiver which had Dolby Digital and functioned fine via toslink. With the HDVR2, I don't get any DD output from my receiver, connected via toslink. I did go into the receiver's menu and set up DD and I do get light out of the cable. I called Hughes and they said, "I'm sorry but this receiver does not have a functioning optical connection", they said it was some sort of glitch in the matrix. They said to use the composite connections and I argued that you can't get DD through this connection. The guy put me on hold for a few minutes and came back and said that the optical doesn't work but you can use the RF out to carry the audio signal. I said fine, went to take a look and my receiver has an "RF AC-3" connection designed for a LD player but I can't connect the HDVR2 to it because the RF out on that is F connector. Is there a converter? Is there any truth to the notion that the toslink simply will not work on this receiver or that a DD signal is carried via RF out?
thanks,
Mike
