I just installed an HDVR2 in place of an Echostar receiver which had Dolby Digital and functioned fine via toslink. With the HDVR2, I don't get any DD output from my receiver, connected via toslink. I did go into the receiver's menu and set up DD and I do get light out of the cable. I called Hughes and they said, "I'm sorry but this receiver does not have a functioning optical connection", they said it was some sort of glitch in the matrix. They said to use the composite connections and I argued that you can't get DD through this connection. The guy put me on hold for a few minutes and came back and said that the optical doesn't work but you can use the RF out to carry the audio signal. I said fine, went to take a look and my receiver has an "RF AC-3" connection designed for a LD player but I can't connect the HDVR2 to it because the RF out on that is F connector. Is there a converter? Is there any truth to the notion that the toslink simply will not work on this receiver or that a DD signal is carried via RF out?

thanks,
Mike

This is not true. There is a software porblem that is supposed to be fixed soon via download. I don't know when, but that is what I read at Tivocommunity forums. Check them out if you want more info. I had this problem with my DishPlayer several years ago, hope this one gets fixed soon.

Hughes has their head up their you know what's.

My HDVR2 has been optically plugged into both a Sony and now a Pioneer Elite AV receiver and it definitely gets dolby-digital.

Sometimes it takes a few seconds for the receiver to lock on it, but it definitely works.

Some movies come in as Dolby digital, yet only have stereo sound. But others come in with full surround sound.
