don't you need a SuperDish to get the Memphis locals? Atleast, that's what I thought.

Nope. Memphis ABC, CBS, NBC and PBS are on 110°. The UPN station is on 61.5°. A free dish, switch and installation are available to subscribers in the area (no strings, commitments or minimums as long as you are a current subscriber to the locals package by calling 1-800-333-DISH.
The Mississippi PBS is uplinked also, but hasn't been tured on yet.

Just got of the phone with an E CSR. According to her, Eugene will be up and they will start taking orders after 6.00 AM Eastern.

I hope they give free previews to all the other new markets that will be released just as DirecTv does.
To all:
Just a quick note. The WB shows in Memphis have moved from the ABC affiliate in Memphis, WPTY, to the UPN affiliate, WLMT. If you want the WB shows included in your locals package, you will need to get the free 61.5 dish.
I found this out from a friend living in Memphis. She told me the change occurred a few weeks ago. The WB shows are on at normal times on Saturday and Sunday. During the week, the WB shows start at 10pm instead of 7pm.
Checking the following site verified the information:

Just thought the E* community in the Memphis market should know.

I live in the Memphis area and signed up for the local channels (exept for WLMT UPN 30, which I'll explain later) and have some questions:
Why is WLMT on 61.5? When I tune in to channel 30 I get a screen that says I need a separate dish. If Dish can do that, why can't they put the station on 110 in the first place? I called about getting the second dish, but I didn't have a clear line of sight, so I didn't get it.
So far the PBS station in Mississippi hasn't been added. When is it coming on? Also, I've noticed that it's supposed to be on 110. Why is a second PBS station allowed to be on 110 but WLMT has to be on 61.5? That doesn't make much sense.
Finally, if something happens and the Mississippi PBS station doesn't come on, is there a chance that WLMT could be moved to 110?

It is not a screen which is only for your UPN. It is shared by many other stations in many markets.
The 2nd PBS, I believe will simply be a mirror of the PBS used in the Jackson market. That point may be the cause of the delay. Since it does not require any additional space, it would not free up any space for UPN if it did not happen.

Transponder space contains room for 12 to 13 channels. The Mid south spotbeam on
transponder 6 @ 11o has seven Nashville stations & 5 Memphis stations.
The Mississippi PBS channel, if offered, is simply being mapped to the Jackson, MS PBS. Therefore, it doesn't reside on the spotbeam.
It seems like they should put UPN on the 110 bird, though, if there is room for one more channel.

So if I live in West TN, would I even be able to get the MS PBS station? I'd actually like to be able to get it for one program: Red Green. WKNO, the PBS station in Memphis, only carried it once during a fund drive, but not since, which is typical for them.
The PQ with 12 channels is probably bad enough. The normal amount of channels has been limited to eleven in many cases. They probably consider having 13 channels on one Tp to be quite extreme and the PQ would be unacceptable.
jhickman,
Yes, you would get the channel. The reason is that the Oxford, MS PBS station is inside the Memphis DMA. It is in the extreme southern end, but it is there which means it counts. All residents in a DMA get all the available channels. They don't issue some available channels that are within the DMA in one part of the DMA and not the other. Also, since the channel is not a true duplicate of WKNO and in a different state, E* is more likely to carry it. I am pretty sure that Mississippi ETV could demand must carry on this one. It would deprive about 11 of 82 MS counties the ability to watch the home state PBS on E* if they didn't offer it.
It is probably a good idea to send a feedback email to E* with the category of Programming. Tell them you are aware that a channel allocation was made for WMAV on Channel 7172 for the Memphis locals and wonder when it would be turned on. They are mapping it from Jackson, so they could probably turn this channel on in a moment's notice.
JohnH,
You're right about the number of channels on the spot. I figured that there might not be more room available. I wasn't sure which locals shared the spot.
