View Full Version : Will I see channels that I do not have access to?

My current cable tuner has a very nice feature where I can scroll through all of the programming titles at the bottom of the screen while watching a program. What is annoying is that I can see titles that I do not have access to and there is nothing to designate that I do not have access until I switch to the channel.
Does DirectTV have a similar small title box at the bottom of the screen to select channels?
If so do channels that exist but are not in my programming appear while scrolling through the channels?
Ant differences on Tivo?

You can set up your "Favorites" list to show whatever channels you want. Depending on the model of receiver, you can set four or more separate lists.

On DirecTivo's you have two lists:
1) Channels you receive
2) Favorites
You can customize either list to your taste but favorites is a subset of "channels you receive"
So I don't subscribe to Starz so I deselect that in channels I receive and I don't see those channels or know they even exist.
All DirecTV and DISH receivers have this feature in some form or another.
Hughes has what they call the one line guide on non-tivo receivers. This gives you one line at the bottom containing 1.5 hrs of any chanel and you can select between all the favorite lists you have by pressing the FAV button (i.e on my old Hughes I have All Channels, and other 4 selectable lists)
The DirectTivo is different as stated above, since you can pause live TV while surfing the guide.
Note: when I used a newer RCA receiver, it did not have a one line guide, just picture in guide which gives a small (1/10th size) video window in a full (i.e 5 channels at a time) guide (It does have the 5 different favorites lists, though). So different brands have different types of guides.

Do any of the Tivo models have the "one line guide"? I really like to be able to "see" what is one while watching. I would prefer not to pause.

We already answered your question. ALL DirecTivo's have the same guide. They are all the same hardware and all the same software. All made at the same plant in Mexico. Just different names on the boxes.
