To all Jackson, MS subscribers:

According to the Clarion-Ledger, WUFX, the long awaited new FOX35 to serve Vicksburg/Jackson, is scheduled to be on the air at noon today, September 30. As some of you are aware, there was a shooting at the tower about one month ago. The tower construction was delayed for sixteen days while a search for the suspect was conducted. An arrest has not been made, but there is a suspect. They are waiting on gunshot residue test results.

Sharon Warner, the publicity director, has confirmed that E* subscribers with Jackson locals will receive the channel as soon as it is on the air.

Oops, Sharon Warner is publicity director for WUFX, WDBD WB40, and WXMS-LP UPN27. I guess I should read my posts more closely. :D :sure:

If you subscribe to Jackson, MS locals on E*, you should check and make sure that 8303 WAGA Atlanta (or whichever distant city you currently receive FOX from now)disappears from your channel list if you don't want to continue paying for it. It should disappear, but I did have problems with getting the Atlanta FOX configured correctly on my account so that FOX was $1, not $1.50. Just something to keep in mind. :)

I can pick it up on my OTA antenna, but it is not yet showing up in my E* channel guide. Hmm...

It is not on E* yet. It has no space assigned. Watching for signs of it.

My cousin In jackson said that he saw the channel this morning . Who knows what he saw .

rollua1,

He might have seen the channel over the air. It's a 5 million watt UHF station only 15 miles away. Your cousin could probably get a good signal on rabbit ears.

My brother is the one who has E* with Jackson locals. As of 8pm tonight, he still receives 8303 WAGA FOX Atlanta. 35 has not showed up yet.

Strange, since WUFX management have signed the retrans agreement with E*....

Maybe E* is having problems capturing the signal. However, OTA signal is good. Can't imagine them not locking into the signal at their Jackson receive facility.

JohnH,

It should get channel number 9273, if current E* numbering conventions hold. Keep an eye on 9273.

Yeah, I am checking once in a while. E* does not normally put locals up on the spur of the moment. They take time to test them before and after they uplink them.

Not uplinked yet - as we speak

Maybe E* will surprise us all by adding WXMS UPN along with WUFX FOX.......ha ha ha. (sigh)

Darkman,

Funny you should mention that.

I decided to send an email to ceo@echostar.com about Dish's refusal to carry low-power WB and UPN affiliates.

Someone called and left a message from E*'s corporate office. I was a little surprised. I just figured that they would send a form email saying something like "if we carried one low power station, we'd have to carry them all".

I will be returning the call tomorrow. I will be polite, but point out that E* should be carrying low power WB and UPN affiliates in every DMA where they offer locals as long as they can come to a reasonable retrans agreement.

Hopefully, I can get them to see the light and carry WXMS UPN. I also mentioned that Cincinnati was lacking the local UPN for TNGTony. I figure that if I can talk sense into upper management, I should fight to get him his UPN, too.

Good luck on the UPN thing. I really hope they will see the light and add WXMS for us. Somehow life just doesnt feel quite complete with that one channel missing! And so far I still do not have WUFX on E*. I wonder when in the world it will go on...since TimeWarner and D* have already added it.

Postaltodd,

Well, I tried. I talked with a lady in the executive office who tried to explain why I didn't get UPN in the locals. She said something about the "level of saturation" for the locals subscribers in a given market. For E*, there must be a certain percentage of subscribers with locals before they carry WB and a different amount for UPN.

She wasn't sure why the UPN wasn't already carried and was not aware that E* was blocking all non major network stations.

Here's the kicker, though. She TOLD me that Superstation WGN carried UPN programming. Can you BELIEVE that???!!! Of course, a quick check of the guide online proves her very wrong. The only way to get UPN if you don't have it is the superstations (if you qualify).

She did struggle, though, in giving the answer because I am smarter than the average bear when it comes to satellite issues due to this forum.

Those executives at E* are hopeless.

non major network stations that are LOW POWER, I mean.

TNGTony, I tried to plead your case too about UPN and locals. She didn't even discuss that further. The 32nd largest market should get their UPN.

Oh well. At least they know that we WANT the UPN added. It seems like they would at least want to offer the same that DirecTV does.....since they carry WXMS. I'd still like to know what the holdup with WUFX is! Has anything been said about a start date for E*?
