What is the difference between a 301 and 311?

Isn't the main difference - that 311 will not have a card (it will have built-in, embedded or whatever it's called - card... But it will not have an actual card as 301 does for example)

Interestingly enough if you look on the logic boards for 301s there is an area labeled "Internal Smartcard" or something like that. So this has been planned for a while. I think the 311 will just be the "good" 301 logic board with this internal smartcard part added on. Maybe a lower price too or something to be competitive.

I still wonder if they are just going to do a software update that makes the 301 into a 311. There's probably no difference between the 301 and the 311 except the built in smart card in the 311.

I remember when they upgraded my old 4700 to a 4900 model. Of course back then the receiver didn't have a model number on the outside. It was just a plain black box so that was probably why they could change model numbers without a problem.

noticed that 311 = P2.51 S/W as of Oct 1 (on dishnet software upgrade page)

Seems strange, they have already upgraded the software for a receiver that is not even available to purchase, whatever they are up to wish it would hurry, feel left out with the slow EPG and 210 software version

Perhaps its for the beta users.
