He said Milwaukee and Minnesota are getting interference from a Canadian satellite??? Now this is gonna affect Madison too? GOL BLANGET! They better just move them to the Dish 500 so I can get my Club Dish certificates distributed already!

That would be Anik F1. It is quite powerful and only 2.3 degrees away. It also does not use the same frequency plan, so opposite polarities are not always an option.

In your EXPERT opinion sir :) what do you think will happen?

I hope that this gets cleared up. I'm in Madison, and was looking forward to upgrading to the SuperDish and eliminating one of my two "mouse ears" (not to mention the upgrade to the new switching technology).

Not sure I have an opinion, yet. Not sure AMC-15 will overcome this problem. A bigger dish would work, but that may not be an option.
Of course, the problem may not be as bad as one might think.

I suspect Charter will give satellite a hard time bragging how they have UPN 14. Thanks for your reply John.

It's also possible that this dealer just isn't competant or experienced with pointing the Superdish yet. The Superdish will not be as easy to point as existing dishes.

There is a reason why Echostar is requiring a professional install.

Satillite interference would be very bad news since most of us in Southwest Wisconsin have been waiting patiently for the Madison locals. I hope it is a problem that can be quickly resolved. :(

ya - they mentioned about this "Canadian Interference" on Oct 1st, Retailer Chat...
I think Green Bay, and some other markets are effected..
They said though - they d be doing some further testing on those to try to resolve the problem (markets were geting low signal or something) - but they still had some hope to have those up for Oct 16

I think they will be looking closely at this. Minnesota is a top 15 market with every local network transmitting in DTV/HDTV (Even the PAX station). Three major Electronics Retailers, and all the minor players (Radio Shack, Sears, etc.) It's a big loss in 811 sales in my opinion. Although that assumes it's in the main metro area. If it's just duluth they might say screw it, they are so close to canada they could just get an expressVu system.

An option would be to have a larger version of the superdish to help it focus in on 105 better. A separate 1 meter dish would probably fix the problem.

Maybe they should just add those locals that are going to get more interference to 110 instead of 105. This does not solve the problem with receiving all the HD channels though. I have heard that they are changing transponders around to adjust to the interference to improve things.
