Anybody know a reason why Dish Networks has taken the cricket event (India vs NZ/Australia, starting Oct 8th) off their web site?
It was offered for $199 on the Web last week. I called to order yesterday and was told that it is not being offered now and will only be available close to that start of the event.
I am suspecting they will raise the event fee. Does anybody know more about this? Anything I can do to avoid this potential price gouging...

I am also wondering what happened! I have emailed them at ppvcricket@echostar.com but have not heard back. They may be renegotiating....
Interesting to note that it disappeared the same day that SA agreed to visit Pak. A larger package may be plannned ... though the other series has already started!
Keep us posted if you hear anything ....
Thanks

Just curious but was that a typo. 199 for a cricket event. Seems rather steep to me

cricket is generally an expensive package (they show lots of matches though btw)

$199 is for an entire series that lasts about 2 months. It involves 3 countries. In general, these packages run $99-$149.
Bills976, here is hello from a displaced HUGE Bills Fan! I went to UB. I hope we can clean up our act after the last 2 games. We need a running game BAD! We can talk Bills offline [PM] if you want. GO TKO!

I called Dish this evening again for the event. They tell me the same thing that the event is not available now. I wonder what happens now to folks who have already paid for the entire series.
I have a feeling that they do not want to show the test matches and prefer to generate larger revenues by showing the one day games.
Thanks to all who posted a response.

The problem is that www.willow.tv has acquired the rights, same thing happened last year when Ind toured NZ.
They are offering it for $99. But u gotta have broadband and watch in on 320 X 240 screen.
I gave dish all the anger I had too, coz this is serious, if they keep acquiring rights, we will never be able to watch cricket
This is what I got from dish email
Thank you for your interest in the India Triangular Cricket package.
Unfortunately, DISH Network will not be providing the package scheduled to
begin October 8th, 2003. Although we have worked very hard, DISH Network was
not able to reach a fair and reasonable agreement with the provider.
DISH On Demand Pay-Per-View will be offering 2 ODIs and the 2 Test matches
of the Pakistan vs. South Africa tour, October 10 - October 28. We are
currently in the process of updating dishnetwork.com/cricket with this
information. Beginning October 8th you may order the package for $29.95, by
calling 1-800-333-DISH (3474).
THEN
The ODIs were part of this contract and will not be shown. However, we are
working hard to secure rights to extensive future cricket programming.
We appreciate your feedback and encourage you to contact us with any further
questions.
THEN
Thank you for your e-mail. We strive to make satellite programming as affordable as possible. We appreciate your comments and will forward this to our Programming Department for further consideration.
Your business is greatly appreciated and we thank you for allowing us to be of assistance to you. If you have any further questions or concerns, please refer to www.dishnetwork.com or reply to this e-mail.
Sincerely,

Thanks for the info. I think we should join hands and pressure Dish to offer Cricket in the future. I subscibed to Willow last year but the broadband streams are not stable.
Also, I usually record the 8 hours overnight a watch it at my leisure using my PVR/DVR. The broadband option does not let me do that.
I would be delighted if Direct TV got into the action and then I could say bye bye to Dish.

Likewise, I used to to tape it in D-Vhs and take the tape with me and watch it at work. I have also seen it in willow, but it sucks. I was wondering how many subscribers they have for the night watching anyways
I don't think DirectV will ever have cricket

P.S I don't pay a dime to watch satellite, so is more painful to even think about paying willow.
Let's hope they show the Ind/Aus series
