View Full Version : My 508 is bugging out!!

Hi fellas,



I found this site by way of luck. I just bought a 508-DVR from a co-worker who went to DTV, the box work like a charm then I did the upgrade because the current software was P-96. I upgraded to P-99, now some freaky things are starting to happen the box would change ch all by it self?! Also last night I Rec a show on MTV and my wife comes and tell me this morning (6:00am) the box keep saying you can't perform the command unless in live mode, would you like to Blah Yes-Cancel-No. Every time I execute yes it would keep asking or the screen would go black, I hit the view button and it gives me the real time but no pic & sound? For some reason the 508 thinks it in Rec mode when clearly it's not.



So I unplug it and hopefully it will reset when plug it back in tonight.



Any comments or stories, advice is welcome. Is there a list of do and don'ts for the 508 that are not listed?

Hi Terence, and welcome to DBSTalk! :hi:

You did exactly what I was going to suggest - reset the 508 by either unplugging it or by pulling the smartcard and reinserting it. If that doesn't clear up the problem you are having, let us know and we'll see what else we can come up with!

Your first do if you haven't done it is call DISH Network and invest in the $1.99 extended warranty. You have to be covered for a month before you can file a claim but it will replace any DISH branded equipment that fails.

Thx guys. Man........I love forums!!:D When i get home i will let you guys know how it turns out, and i will call Dish Net right now for the $1.99 extended warranty.

Had the same issue here this morning. Recorded Letterman while we watched People's Court. Turned off the TV to go to sleep. When I woke up this morning, I got the Stop recording for live mode message and saw in the PVR screen that it still thought it was recording Letterman. Rebooted and everything's fine again...but geez!!

I haven't had an trouble with my 508 recently but it makes me wonder if there might have been a glitch in the programming guide. Hmm

In any case, the $1.99 extended warranty is a great thing to have. Let us know what happens and we will do our best to help.

It's Alive! ........Alive!! :D All is well with my 508, I pluged it back up last night and the 508 has worked with no problems. Thx for the help guys.
