Hey everyone...just wanted to ask the experts here at dbstalk a question about OTA channels/antenna. I am in DFW, TX and according to antennaweb.org I would need a "yellow" antenna, which I take means the signals are strong/close. Upon receiving my DISH 811, would a good Radio Shack (or other) indoor antena work well? Does anyone who lives in the Metroplex already have an answer? I would like to avoid an outdoor antenna if possible, although one that clips to the dish would be fine; although I hear they are not that great. One other thing, I believe all DFW stations might be UHF for digital, except ABC? I appreciate any and all responses.

I don't mean to be flip, but why not just buy an $8 WalMart/RadShack indoor antenna and find out? In my experience, the cheapo rabbit ears set will give you accurate pass/fail info and at least 80% of the PQ of an overpriced indoor antenna or a dish clip-on.

When I lived in Kansas City, a little indoor antenna worked pretty well. Here in Denver, it gets UHF channels great and 5 of 7 VHF channels pretty well. The PQ isn't cable/DBS quality, but it could be acceptable. Except for the two channels that come in awful.

IMHO, nothing beats an inexpensive experiment. Go for it!

If they are all UHF, Radio Shack has a $15 Double Bow Tie anteann that has a really good reputation for HDTV. Plus, Radio Shack has a good return policy. So you can take it back it want to upgrade to something stronger.

They also have a UHF Only antenna that you can stick in your attic or on the roof. Its only $25.
