Hey I'm new to this means of discussion. :nono2: Hopefully someone can point me in the right
direction. I have a older dish network receiver but a new HD TV. I am having problems with the unit receiving the signal from the remote so I'm junking it for what I hope to be a HD dish unit, 6000u. I found this talk site from a friend and I've read over some of the entries, it appears there is a deal on 6000u's. I almost bought one today for 450.00 on ebay. good thing I waited, :eek2: huh? please someone help me with my decision, should I get the 6000u now? should I wait for something bigger and better coming out soon? and lastly is there a deal I should know about?
thanks to all who respond
dedicated dish subscriber.

Elmo,

It is a good time to be look towards getting a Dish Network HDTV Set Top Box (STB). The 6000 is only sale by Dish to existing customers. Depending on how much you spend per month and how long you've been a customers, they'll sell you a 6000 and install it for either $149 or $199. This includes the 8VSB module. I spent about $600 for this back in Feb.

So you can get that great deal, or Dish even has two other HDTV receivers due in November. The 811 which is a newer revision of the 6000. It should be quicker and has better software and tuner chips. But it will sell for $399. The model 921 is a HDTV DVR. It will sell for $999.

So look into each.

I have been pondering your situation and I have an idea for you.

Call dish network and see what kind of deal they can give you on the 6000u w/ the 8VSB. If they can give it to you for $149, I don't see how you can go wrong. You could always use this box on a second TV or sell it if you want to upgrade later and you will not be out a lot of money... heck if someone paid 400 for one on ebay then you could make money of this deal.

If they can't swing you a smokin', plam tree kind of deal on the 6000u, take one of your other boxes, move it downstairs and use it as your temporary box until you pull the trigger on the 821 or DVR 921 later this year.

Don't forget, if you want the HD TV I would suggest you get a roof top antenna and/or get a dish pointed to the 148 Satellite so you can pick up all the HD you can... but dish will be migrating the HD stuff over to the 105 sometime in the distant future so then you will need the Superdish to pick up the 118, 105 and the 121. So if you end up waiting to get the 821 or 921, you might as well get the Superdish with it.

Well, keep me in the loop!

I was told that to get it $149 you have to be with DISH for 2 years. I've been with them for a year and 3 months so the best they could do is $199. I can't decide between the 6000u or the 811.

2 years doesn't do it if you are a cheapskate like me and get top 50.

I've had the top 100 for the first year and top 150 since July.

It strikes me as odd that they would have a different price just because you've been there longer.

I think it has to do with how much you pay Dish each month too.
