View Full Version : problem extending recordings after L115

I've tried to extend a recording tonight and the dish is telling me that I can only extend 29 minutes.

Scott, is this a new "feature"? If it is, I liked it a lot more when I could choose how long I wanted to extend. On double overtime games, 30 minues usually isn't enough.

Please "say it ain't so"!!!!

If this is a new "feature", you can work around it by just setting a manual timer rather than recording from the guide. You could also set timers for the shows following the game.

I do agree that this would suck, though.

They were probably getting problems due to multiple timers firing. Maybe the software couldn't tell when you had two timers firing in a time period and then another tried to record by extending the time.

I agree with the other solutions..... Just record the shows after the football game OR set a manual timer.....

The way I pad my timers is to hit edit then change the end times to anything i want, then hit create. Problem solved. Just set your timer from the guide, then click on the new timer and then edit. Good Luck

From what I been hearing, Dish had to have changed the software from the beta version on purpose for this 29 minute buffer, because it was not like this on the beta version. There must have been an issue causing them to make a change at the last minute so that they could release the software to get the 721's the SuperDish capabilities. They figure they can do a minor update later to fix the issues.

Good grief! Why should a person have to go through all that? It is amazing what some DISH subscribers will put up with.

The thing to do is to call DISH and ask to speak to someone in tech support that can put in a software bug report. Maybe if several thousand people did that the problem would be fixed in a reasonable period of time (not 10 months like the last set of bug fixes took).

Bill R.
I just read Scott saying now Dish is recommending the method that I stated to pad recordings. This is their work around. They have got to stop stealing my ideas!! lol
Sorry you didn't like it. By the way Bill, with 5 dvrs, I have reported more bugs to Dish over the years than you can imagine. My file must be as thick as a dictionary. Thanks anyway.

Flip,

I was not knocking you for offering the suggestion; I was just suggesting that we should not have to go through all that. And the crummy part about this is that DISH made this change on purpose and does not plan on restoring it to the way it was.

To me this clearly shows that DISH does not understand the way their customers use the 721 nor do they really care about what WE want (we want to be able to do a timer one time and on one screen, not enter a timer and then have to edit it).

The probelm is that you now have to remember far too many work arounds to use Dish equipment.

No one would tolerate this if it was your car or your referigerator.

Imagine that to start your car every morning you had to open the hood, shake the plug leads, roll down 3 of the 4 windows (but you only get one chance to pick the right 3 windows!) and jump up and down on the trunk before you turned the key!!! Or to get your fridge to cool down you had to turn off all the lights in your house, open the garage door and stand out on the couch one one foot!

Hey E* get a clue. We are tired of having to accept work arounds!!! My company's clients wouldn't accept this level of crap in the software and hardware they buy from us, your customers shoudln't either.

Have you actually tried this since the up(down)grade?
I have and it doesn't work for me. :nono:
I still only get the 29 min pad.

Stx, Yes it works fine. First create a timer from the guide. Then select the timer, either from the guide or the menu, under timers, then hit edit, then hit set time (don't use pad buttons) then change the end time to whatever you want, then hit create. This is simply the way you edit your timers either on the 721 or any of the 50x's. According to a post by Scott this is now the way Dish is saying to pad a timer over 29 minutes. It is very easy and once you get used to it can be done in seconds. Good Luck!

OK, now I'm dying to know.....

WHY did they make this change? If you can edit it to get around it, why mess with it in the first place?

What intermittent bug did they feel they were addressing by introducing this limitation?

Lots of questions, I wish SOMEONE over there would give us a clue as to their motivations.....

I have always done padding by editing my timers after they are created. I never have used the padding slot , I always put it to 0 or blank it out. Of course I also record blocks of recordings in order to avoid having to many timers with the show cut off at the end. With blocks I never miss the endings of shows in a row like MUST SEE TV Thursdays on NBC. I also never see that annoying pop up that says" need to use the main tuner to record what do you want to do ?" That is really annoying. Last night I tried individual show recordings and every 30 minutes a pop up came up annoying the sh*t out of me. So I went back to block recordings of the sitcoms I like to watch.

Speaking of editing timers, why can't you name an event when you manually create it? Even the DP had this capability!
